Ha ha very good! And you can never have only one bike. I confess I have an enduro bike, eMTB and jump/pump track bike. No road bike for me, it’s too dangerous! If feel soo much safer sending it down a mountain/hill side dodging trees than dodging pedestrians and cars

That's only if they're going slower than 30 mph, it should be wider at faster speed as many times cars churned up crap spraying on me and the wind nearly knocking me off my bike as they speed past me. I prefer mtb in forests or mountains, much more relaxing than riding on the road.

You live in a good area for it so it surely can’t be that hard. How was Fort Bill?

I live flat land. Incredibly hard to find a guy

I’ll be riding the Surrey Hills and Swinley in 3 weeks if you’re around and fancy a pedal. Open invite if anyone wishes to join in, let’s do a ride out!

Eeek probably sound a bike snob but I don't like riding them areas lol

Where else is there for natural or groomed trails? I know places like Windhill and Rogate but I’ve not ridden them yet. I’m south for a week so I have time to go explore!

Just been to Windhill for first time, was fun but I prefer epic days out on the mountains or in the forest like coed y brenin and cwmcarn. Will be visiting Dyfi bike park soon though."

Still not ridden anythings in Wales yet. Buy have a friend who coaches at Bikepark wales and another who has as an MTB house he rents, so definitely need to make use of that and see them.

Then just going to hit a few southern spots over the summer I think

If you’re on 2 wheels and peddling then you’re good! Apart from gravel riders, they’re the Bi’s of cycling, just greedy having both! Ha ha "

The winds that forever seem to be headwinds. The 2nd year I rode the ToC I thought I was ready for them, got my head down and powered it out for a good 8 mile, looked behind me and i had a line behind me drafting me. Don’t know why anyone would question it. What does it matter? I have a Voodoo, nothing special, does the job. I ride with people that all own bikes that are 3/4 times the price of mine, we all ride the same miles, we all get there together and leave together, and we all enjoy each others company, as long as your bike works for what you need, I don’t get why people need to dick swing

I was once riding at at event and hit a big hill and really good female cyclist passed me as I ground up the hill, she had an amazing bum and I sudden found more power in my legs to get up the hill. I did fall back as the hill went on, but it helped me up the hill

I have found bike and kit snobbery more prevalent in some clubs.

That said I used to train at Castle Combe race track, they open it weekly to cyclists. This guy was flying past everyone on their named road bikes on his old mtb wearing normal shorts and t shirt.

You soon learn it’s not about the bike or the gear but the person cycling it and actually what they get from it

"So is that why cars are reluctant to overtake me in town, are they just coping an eye full?

Oh wait, no, it’s probably because I’m all over the place trying to stay on the thing lol "

Granted, you do have a very nice bum so that's just as likely they're just perving

" I was once riding at at event and hit a big hill and really good female cyclist passed me as I ground up the hill, she had an amazing bum and I sudden found more power in my legs to get up the hill. I did fall back as the hill went on, but it helped me up the hill

"

I'm terrible at climbing (blame my bike) so I can totally relate to that. Nothing like a fine arse rolling side to side while riding out of the saddle.

Yep. Always the case with gear snobs. They’re compensating.

"Busy week in my workshop, Ride London and Tour of Cambridgeshire bikes in for services...plus some extra repair work...might get a cheeky ride out on Thursday. Out on Saturday doing the Jack Thurston Lost Lanes "Small is Beautiful" route in Rutland.... Ride Safe

Im riding the Tour of Cambridgeshire on the Sunday, sadly its the last one they're running, so it will be Ride London next year

Anyone else riding in the ToC?

I can ride the route any day of the week...local to me...might be flat in places...just hope the wind is easy for you across the Fens..on the day

The winds that forever seem to be headwinds. The 2nd year I rode the ToC I thought I was ready for them, got my head down and powered it out for a good 8 mile, looked behind me and i had a line behind me drafting me. Not one took the front and when i did slow, I had nothing left to keep up. So now its strong and steady

Those winds out from Ramsey to Benwick then acrpss towards Whittlesey... as you every direction is a headwind even on light wind days... I'd rather climb 20% hills

I live in North Wales and surrounded by hills, and I agree with you on preferring big hills to headwinds; at least with a hill you get a downhill. But I'm looking forward to the Fenns in a strange perverse way. I'm working in Belgium over the summer and I'm taking the bike so will be hitting the cobbles while I'm out there

Ah Belgium...get down to the Flemish Ardennes area .. Oudenaarde, Zwalm, Zottegem.... You won't regret it

Im based in Gent, so right a stone throw away from the Ardennes. I will be stopping over there every other weekend so will hopefully have a few punishing rides out

Excellent.... I'm not due over until next spring sadly....unless I come into some money...lol

Just had the TOC routes through and we arent going out onto the Fenns this year, we turn back towards home at the end of the Ramsey to Pondersbridge straight. Disappoi ted that we aren't going to have the sufferfest or Alconbury runway sprint on the last ToC

That's a bit disapointing....lol... no suffering this year.."

It is, they have thrown in a few "hills" as a consolation. But the first year I did it I remember talking to someone on a incline amd I said "I hear we have a bit of a climb coming up" only to be told we were on it.

Just means I'll have to come back amd do the Fenns on a separate trip (and visit Jaydees again while I'm in the area)

To beat the hills you must ride the hills. The more you do them the easier they get (no granny gears allowed) as you cant always guarantee a nice bum to follow

Just fit a cassette like a dinner plate. Or a motor.

I’ve got the choice

I seen them at Cannock but definitely sure they had clothes on

Why not the granny gear as you don't want to put pressure on your chain or gear cassette?

True, I'm not an advocate of getting out of the saddle in climbs which increases the pressure on chains and cassettes. Also using a very low gear is inefficiant and reduces control/balance. I'm not in favour of grinding up hills in a high gear, but slow amd steady with resistence works

That’s why us MTB’rs have gondolas and uplifts I’ll leave the pedalling to Tom Pidcock!

"I love mtb, looking for that guy with camper van so we can fun together on the trails and road

The Camel trail in Cornwall is one of the busiest in Europe I ride it most days all year round

I'm hoping to do Ride London next year, the only reservation is getting to and from the start/finish line from a hotel.

But have fun on the ToC, I always have the evening before in Jaydees; so my legs are never 100% (thats my excuse)
