Am I the only one who gets annoyed and deletes messages straight away if there are way to many spelling mistakes? Don't get me wrong I appreciate the message but sometimes it's like trying to crack the enigma code when trying to read these messages and understand what they are trying to say.

(Cue all the messages about any misspelling I may have done lol)

I think not everyone can spell very well and some people aren't native English speakers. I tend to go on content and I don't see the connection between being able to hold a conversation spelling. Some of the most interesting people I know would struggle to put their thoughts on paper

Nawww. It used to annoy me, but then one day one of my friends randomly mentioned how he dislikes when people make fun of others for their spelling.

She talked about how you never know the reasons why. Maybe someone’s dyslexic, maybe it’s not their first language, maybe they didn’t excel at school but are totally fine now.

That shifted my perspective towards being less judgemental about spelling.

I try not to judge on grammar , language evolves , communication shouldn’t be judged on spelling especially in this modern virtual world ...

I get more upset with the grammar police , who in my opinion place themselves on some sort of pedestal demanding correct punctuation..

It’s been a long time since I went to school , and to be perfectly honest my academic education was well below par .

As of course everyone should know , education does not equal intelligence,

That being said , given today’s tools on the devices we use , if it’s laziness that effects ones grammar , one should perhaps try harder

It used to bother me a little bit especially when a friend was always spelling everything wrong. When I found out they had been diagnosed to dyslexic it made me take a new view on every message received

I (R) have Dyslexia. I do my best, and have definitely progressed since being on social media and talking more .

However I do struggle a lot with punctuation too. I don’t get offended by people that get upset about it as it’s water off a ducks back

I've met some very intelligent, funny, kind and decent people who can't spell or punctuate.

So, while a lot of misspelling might grate on me, it isn't something I'd consider a deal breaker.

Certain words or phrases, How’s, you’s etc but it’s really more the context and content that’s a real put off.

A message is like an approach at a bar. I know for absolute definate no one would approach without stopping for a breath with a full stop, or speaking with the wrong words. So why would messaging be different? However acceptance of the existence of autospelling needs acknowledged.

I am also dyslexic & sometimes struggle to spell with quite simple everyday words. I think I can make myself understood but do sometimes run into the spelling police

Seriously though I think OP should rethink posting this thread

I’m clearly dyslexic but don’t take offence due to the fact I have high IQ with huge self confidence

Many on here aren’t so lucky and maybe offended by this

Also think of this Mrs is not native and speaks another language as mother tongue and has to constantly correct my English

Luckily my use of vocabulary helps when messaging

One day I can spell a word the next I can’t

No it doesn't bother me because as others have said there could be numerous reasons,it's not always laziness.

I remember a thread a guy put up on the forums a good while ago he was asking advice but because he didn't spell everything right and had didn't have proper punctuation in it he got ripped apart. If people actually took the time to read what he wrote rather than take the piss you could see the guy was just asking for some advice on something and he was actually really polite and nice. But no the grammar police took great pleasure in 'putting him in his place ' I took the time to actually answer what he was asking. He ended up leaving fab that day though. Which was quite sad as he explained he had dyslexia after I answered him.

And I have never found a correlation between how people spell and write things and how they converse in person.

that’s a very sad story, pretty much why I think it’s an unnecessary topic, it could really crush some people’s confidence and to hear he left after isn’t good

I'm a dyslexic person who just so happens to be a very successful person as I have many other talents.

I do try hard to spell properly and check my messages.

This said I'm certain I would make mistakes, does this make me someone to skip because I have? I've met some really boring and annoying people who spell really well.

The whole person should be assessed and maybe you'll find a diamond in the rough

Some people genuinely have spelling issues for whatever reason, maybe English isn't their first language maybe they're dyslexic. In my experience it doesn't hold true that because their messages are not always well spelt or punctuated that they cannot hold a conversation. I find it's what they say more than how they spell it that matters.

Ours normally come with a pre warning of typos! If Mike is replying......as 6'10 people come with giant thumbs, which are not great for phone messaging!

The ironic thing is, if you look at her profile (and her username is a giveaway), she really doesn't have any right to be judging anyone, for anything.

I'd say that, in terms of personal integrity, grammar and spelling should be way down the list.

I'm dyslexic so my spelling and grammar just isn't what it should be, iv had a lot of shame about this for a good bit of time for many reasons anyone who is dyslexic will understand. It would not bother me if my messages have been deleted due to spelling or grammar as that's the person's choice but what I take issue with is the ones that like to reply with abuse or somehow think that being dyslexic means you're thick, not sure if others have had this, but I have had this many times.

This is just a little rant as the topic came up, not to be directed at any individual on the forum.

For me it has absolutely no impact. Im not a great speller and as long as i can see what your saying i really dont care. Like others have said there could be a million and one different reasons even being as simple as autocorrect changing the word or the American spelling for example. Punctuation does nothing other than make a nice to have.

Psychologist did a trail with swapping letters around in a word and most people can still read it and understand the context so adding a comma here and there does litterally nothing.

It would be different if people were publishing academic text or policy documents but a message on here really doesn’t warrant a peer review session over a message

I'm not good or bad at spelling, some words I check with Google dictionary and I think the same, electronics/gadgets phones ect have the tools for helping and should be used

I with you guys Dyslexia’s a pain people don’t understand how much of a problem it can be to a sufferer

Every day simple words can be a major problem spell the word a thousand times a minute later you forget the spelling or the correct use

People who comment on spelling and grammar are just sad individuals i just ignore the trolls

When I say too many spelling mistakes I meant more in the way of people who are clearly misspelling words without even an attempted to make sure what they've sent is legible. I think there's a clear difference when someone who suffers with dyslexia for example misspells a couple words, which even in that instance you still get the gist of what they are trying to say, as opposed to someone who is clearly making no effort.
