Is it usual for people to talk about thier admiration for other fabbers or celebrities in the first few messages to you?

Personally I find it inappropriate and a turn off or is it just me?

Is this normal social etiquette on fab?

We've never had anyone message us about their admiration for other fabbers or celebrities, it's probably most unusual.

I think it’s rude. I had a guy ask me to message a girl for him once because he was blocked!!!!

Certainly not fabbers. Maybe celebs, in a non sexual sense.

I'll happily talk about admiring members just based off their forum presence, some I like some I don't, I don't feel the need for full on conversation to gain judge of character.

I think it's a way of telling you that you're not the only person they find attractive. It's fairly immature in my opinion

I would find it strange, and would make me wonder why they did it.

So I’m going to guess this thread was sparked by the OP asking me about my status update and me pointing her in the direction of how it came about. Didn’t think it warranted a thread but here we are

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon

I'd say it would depend how the subject was begun. Randomly jumping in with a first message of "see that *enter celebrity name here*, she/he/they would get it" would be weird. But if the subject came up organically it would be perfectly normal.

Very wide open question OP, and very interesting, so it depends on what's been said about the celebs or other fabbers. Would not be offended if I'm compared to a sexy celebrity in a message, more like surprised and think the message is not serious. Can you give an example of what you found offensive or rude? Would love to hear...

More neck than a giraffe

Context is key here. Depends on how it was said I suppose. If they were talking about someone on fab they know you get on with and they were aligning themselves to curry favour then that's understandable. Likewise if they said you looked like a hot as fuck celeb. Other stuff starts to get spectral

Don't think there is any real etiquette, the only real red line is profanities or abuse. Different things apeal to different people we are all different, what gets my attention is unlikely to be what does for someone else.

Certainly here if someone opens with obvious insincere and empty complements or the above, wouldn't get past first sentence. If someone picked up something which maybe came up in conversation in chat - Note: this is just an example and not an invitation

I've had someone contact my verifications asking for my details and for them to pass messages on to me because they were outside my age filters.

When they were told no, they started a thread about me in the hope I would respond.

They obviously had no idea how creepy and inappropriate it was.

I've also had women name-drop other fabbers to emphasise the circles they swing in (pun intended).

More often than not they were people I'd never heard of.
