Apparently or rather allegedly, some can gain control of their sphincters and are able to open up, i.e. gape. It can be done, but you do need to have been doing some anal play beforehand and you do need to learn how to control the muscle. You're right in that it doesn't stay like that, and you can only do it for a few seconds.
