"So I will be out of town in a month or two (Leeds) and would love to make the most of having a hotel room but... I've never did this before! How should I go about arranging people to arrive? I have visions of receptionists asking random strangers why they're queuing for the lift or if they would have to actually ask the staff for access to my floor. Is there a best chain to use for our kind of hijinks? Any help appreciated! " 1) Larger chains will be less problematic than smaller boutiques. Ramada, Holiday Inn Express, Travelodge, Premier Inn - these are usually not that concerned with who's going in. A B&B run by a proprietor who lives onsite might raise issues. Also the abovementioned chains do not usually need ID from everyone using the room - some hotels will insist on each occupant providing ID. (2) BOOK FOR THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO WILL BE IN THE ROOM. If three people ask for access at reception and look like they're staying the night, they're well within their rights not to allow them up. Or to charge extra. (3) Do not look like you might be running a "business" out of the hotel. Also check T&C on room use, just in case. (4) Check that your floor is not access locked (i.e. key card required to access your floor via the lift) otherwise you'll need to esc*rt people up. (5) We won't even begin on the whole safety thing... (6) If you don't want the staff getting to know you, then wondering about a procession of different people, consider switching hotels a couple of times. (7) Don't forget to claim hotel points, and also sign up for promotions!

Also if you are a regular stayer, they should not say "Hello xxx nice to see you back" etc. Hotels used to charge per person, very few do these days by default it is often room for 2 if you book it for 2 and use discretion. So should they - used to be housekeeping/reception manager for a while years ago. Yes housekeeping do occasionally walk in on the unsupecting and find many different things, they are unlikely jump into bed with you thats a porn/male myth. Most are just hard working people earning a living. Well trained staff should be discrete, but also be respectful both reception and housekeeping. They dont want to find used condoms etc littering room when servicing. Dispose of them an clean up after lol. You should be fine

Especially in smaller, privately run, establishments. There are also stories of spouses being outed when being welcomed back to a hotel that their significant other knew nothing about...
