love it, theres a place in birmingham that do all the retro, burlesque outfits/underwear, they have some great old western style under wear that is to die for, comes at a price tho, its not cheap, beautiful tho

Some burlesque dancers are fantastic. Titillating rather than full on sexy I'd say.

But there seems to be an influx of burlesque at the moment by women who aren't exactly talented in the art of burlesque strip tease and think wearing cheap outfits and gyrating will do

I buy my corsets off ebay of all places...at a fraction of the cost of 'proper' burlesque....recently bought a 6 and 8 strap suspender belt and is amazing..keeps my stockings in place beautifully, all night...and there is something very sexy about wearing and preparing...

Yes - Have limited experience of burlesque shows but know a couple of dancers that have started to put on occasional burlesque nights at the roadhouse venue in Birmingham. Having been to a few now, the girls are very sexy, outfits gorgeous and the music scene that accompanies it fantastic. I dont think its all about just one thing, more of a combination of all that really makes it sexy. Matt

IIRC their classes are taught by a TV. The best way to learn how to be a sexy lady IMHO.

To be honest, if it wasn`t for her being married to Maralyn Manson for a while, I think you would probably never had heard of her. Yes she is good but to me over-hyped and very much up her own a..... Saw her at Erotica one year and got barged out of the way by her minders when she was leaving the hall after her ONE performance of the day. Wonder how much she stung the Erotica management for that! Saw just as good if not better at Volupte in the East End a couple of years later.

Very true considering I'm a huge fan of Marilyn Manson and have been since I was 14 (I'm aware of how bad his live performances are so I'm keeping away from any of his concerts so I can live in ignorant bliss!) but because of this, I became curious and looked into burlesque more all those years ago (and being so young, you can't blame me for being introduced to burlesque via MM and DVT).

Considering what MM is like I'm not surprised she acts in that way. What burlesque performers do you like?

Hate to be party poopers, it may be entertaining, after a fashion, but we'd never call it sexy or erotic.

A friend of ours is one of the premier performers in the area and we've seen several Burlesque shows, for free, but we'd never pay to go.

Women with electric tape crosses over their nipples do nothing for either of us, we're probably just not getting it.

That isn't to say that the outfits aren't sexy but preferably in a different situation or probably on different women.

I don't really fit the "ample" typecast for burlesque, but yes, some of the best Burlers I've seen have been larger than I. And yet body size has little to do with it; it's all about body confidence.

I love going to the burlesque. Got a proper cabaret-style one in the next month or so. Good, clean(ish), old fashioned fun! :D

You'll probably find your wrong there, yes pasties and tassels were used but also tape, all by a professional well known long term troupe.

Also, if your such a fan, you'll have seen the recent TV documentary about U.S Burlesque shows from its roots in the early days.

Actor Alan Alda's mother was a performer, it showed all the major performers and, sorry to tell you, none were what you'd describe as Rubenesque by any stretch of the imagination.

The Rubenesque look seems to be a recent look adopted by UK fans and some performers.

After all, you'd hardly call Dita Von Teese Rubenesque would you?

I sadly missed the programme you refer to but I dare say Bettie Paige and Ginger Storm would have featured. Yes, neither are rubenesque either, my reference to rubenesque figures was made emphasise my dislike of the stereotypical pole dance. Sorry if I didn`t make myself clear. Anyway, burlesque can be done by men too, the guy who uses an angle grider on his metal cod-piece springs to mind!

Exactly what I would've said (only not as well phrased!) We used to have local nights that I attended and worked at, and some of the girls were beautiful and made it SO sexy. Then you got the stick thin girls, the ones who really didn't know what they were doing, and the ones who thought they were God's gift!

Personally, I like my burlesque with a hint of shyness, flirty and curvy, not brassy, skin and bones, looking like a drag queen!

Very sexy. There's not much of a Burlesque scene in Manchester which is a great shame as I;d love to go to watch the shows.

We went to Club Noir in Glasgow it was fantastic..it was about 70% women.

Apart from having far too much champagne

it was a great night for me,,,,bad bit was my wife wont go again as I think she felt intimidated by there being so many women dressed provoctovily.

The clubs motto " tease not sleaze " I loved it !!!

I (M) have seen her perform here in Bristol, wasn't anything to write home about really. The council got a right slating for spending the money to bring her over, as it was for a show in the City museum.

Agree about DVT. Over-hyped average dancer who only got her fame for being married to Maralyn Manson who was equally over-hyped!
