Went today and I have never ever seen it so busy, it was packed and a nice lady gave me a load of condoms, good job they have a good shelf life

I was in and out in half hr had appointment. The bloke sat next to me was shaking

. Everybody was messing with there phones , looking at the floor etc . I was people watching

I'm booked in for week tomorrow hate my clinic I'm allergic to latex but they cause argument everytime and end up I have to phone my gp as its not down on my medical records I have a latex allergy !!! Arghhhhhh

Our local clinic is really nice. The docs do try to be a bit patronising though. Does everyone else get asked about sexual partners they've had? Like they want a list of names. Not being funny but if we've played in clubs sometimes in groups I haven't stopped to ask details

Mine know I'm allergic but no longer have them.

Thats a bit of a bugger. I was talking about having to buy them and she looked at me as if I was mad. Good brand too, so I was chuffed.

I do know what a GUM clinic is, but never been to one. Always get my tests done at GP or Chams

oh, btw, for anyone considering it, the nurse is due at Chams this Monday afternoon

What always irritates me on these GUM clinic threads is the mount of people who always mention free condoms. That seems to be the thing they are most focused on, not the fact that they are having medical tests and information.

I really believe that some people only go for free condoms. Yes its nice to get a few testers when you go but the main point of it is that you get access to medical checks, treatment if required and information and that's what we should be more enthusiastic about, not free condoms

I think the clinics POV is that the more people pick up free condoms, the less medical tests have to be done.

However I agree - I was there for several tests to put my mind at rest, and appreciate very much the fact it is free! The staff are great and actually come across as being happy that I am making appointments to go back, not giving me the impression that I shouldn't be wasting their time. The doctor even said that, being single, there is no reason why I shouldn't be having fun. The condoms are to make sure the fun isn't then followed up with bad shit.

Why would anyone het enthusiastic about having swabs shoved up ya bits? It's an essential part if the lifestyle I agree but not something to get excited about.

I mention the free condoms as a way to promote safe sex and also an incentive to get people in to the clinics for said tests and information. A bit like a kid getting a lolly for going to the drs, they don't get excited about going to the drs but they do get excited about the free lolly

I know exactly why free condoms are given out and I'm quite aware that they are a promotional item to encourage safe sex and I'm in complete agreement with that. Many people want something for nothing but if it means they will use them, then that's brill. This is not what I'm disputing.

But its all everyone goes on about on these threads, 'go to the GUM clinic, get free condoms, come on fill ya pockets'.

There are countless threads where its stated that the best thing about the GUM clinic is that you get free condoms. Well no it isn't the best thing, the best thing is that your treatment is easily accessible, access to nursing staff and doctors, held in a confidential setting with the option of testing regularly and receiving results and further appointments in a confidential way.

My clinic asks for the last 5 sexual partners and records name (eg Andy from Ancoats, Bill from Barrow, if I haven't always got the name, I just say it was at a club/party, I'd be able to work out who it was if there was a problem). Staff at mine are never patronising, usually have a good laugh with them - in fact one of the nurses I'm on first name terms with and she always gets me extra condoms and lube (sorry Iconic, I know that's not the real meaning of going)

i went a week ago friday just to be sure. guess i caught the right time as the place was virtually empty. one or two other people.

was told that the result would be available in 2-3 weeks but got the SMS results yesterday (1 week!) all clear

peace of mind for me and for any future sexual partners.

plan to get tested regular too since it doesnt hurt and the staff are all non judgemental.

happy SAFE swinging everbody
