You're not crazy, it's just.. a lot of people would like to cut to the chase and for those of us who get dozens if not hundreds of messages starting with one word intros, it gets tedious.

Think of it like email.. would you send an email to someone simply saying "hi"?

Introducing yourself with "hello" is more appropriate in a medium where there's immediate feedback. It makes no sense for delayed messaging.

On this site and any site I think a 'hi' or a 'hello' or even 'how was your day' with no other added commentary can be difficult to bounce off with a reply. I find it very sort of boring.

I am more inclined to reply if the msg contains an interest from my profile or a conversation starter.

Obviously some people won't reply even if you have used the above but chances are there will be more 'bite' to your intro msg.

That's it.

Nothing after that, which leaves it up to the recipient the reply with something to start a conversation.

I find it very hard getting convo started. I read Profiles and find something from that to start a message. Yes I do start the message with, hello or hi or hey then introduce myself and add message relating to there profile or interest. But I get very few replies. Not had any meets yet.

I clearly state on my profile 'No one line messages', I say this as I am sick to death of people contacting me without reading my profile in full.

I like people who are imaginative and intelligent, who are able to string more than few words together.

Does it work?......No, every day I get one or two word messages sent to me.

Certainly sorts the wheat from the chaff

It's been a while but I used to like the yes/no game, any 5 questions where the answer has to be yes or no. Gets very creative face to face.

It is tough starting on here. My biggest gripe is where I put a bit of effort in and just get an angry retort. I sort of get it though, if you’re a woman on here getting inundated I can see that you’d get arsed if the opening comment wasn’t exactly as you wanted…..

I’ll keep trying, at least I can spell unsuccessful!!

Something open ended that doesn't just dead end in 'yes / no / fine thanks, you?'. Something about our profile or a forum comment that's not immediately sexual can be a good opener. It doesn't need to be an essay or a work of Shakespeare.

I will always suggest anyone to be themselves. If people don’t like your polite introduction, I’d assume you’d never get along anyway.

It's hard getting yourself out there as a single guy. I read Profiles and adapt my first messages to what the Profile is like. I start them with hi or hello and introduce myself them start trying to make convocation. But sadly been on here 5 months and not meet anyone. Must be The amount of message couples and woman get from guys. must be a pain in the ass so can agree with one liner messages are a no no.
