I just had my first meet planned. It was a genuine last minute meet of which I was very excited about. Just brushed my teeth again got dressed and realised one of the other blokes I work with has the van keys so I can't go. I am bloody fuming. So sorry to the couple I have let down tonight. I am not a time waster it was a genuine mistake

If you received that message, what would you think?

Oh I’ve got a work van but someone else had the keys!!!

Come on.. it’s screaming “elaborate excuse so hopefully I can try again when I have more courage / when the wife is out” ( delete as appropriate)

Exactly this…

If OP truly intended to meet then why not just arrange a taxi and explain that you’re on your way

Of course but when they explained as I did I was arranging transport then I would definitely give benefit for at least 30 mins

They instantly blocked me

The old van key excuse hey?

I would of roller skated, pogo sticked, space hoppered. Or maybe even ordered a Uber.

need to live and learn here, i think 99% of people would be frustrated if they received the message that your keys were with someone else would automatically think you’re wasting time or lost the courage, would of been better to just say that you’re phoning your taxi but hindsight is indeed a wonderful thing, good luck for future meets x

Exactly that. That's the advice I needed. Thank you

Why even tell them, just get a taxi and say you’re running a little late? Bizarre

You wouldn't of done any of those things over 100m let alone 5 miles

But why would they be concerned about your travel arrangements, surely if you had a bit of common sense you could have realised that this would have set alarm bells ringing. There is being honest and being stupid mate - no offence. Anyone you’re meeting doesn’t care how you get there, just get there reasonably on time!

I know this isn't the point but I'm genuinely puzzled as to how you had the van but not the key! And your colleague has a key but no van?!

Anyway, not piling on, I'm sorry it didn't work out, OP. As others have said, not sure you needed to give a running commentary unless you were going to be very late, but on and up.

Why didn’t you ring your colleague and ask them to drop the keys off?

As it’s your first meet I don’t understand why you just didn’t jump in a taxi. It surely wouldn’t have made you that much later?

Maybe next time, you struggle to get to them on time, say that what the problem is but you got a solution which means you will be late. But actually call them do they can hear the sincerity in your voice. Too often we rely on texts and forget the old fashion way is the best.

Never mind, plenty fish in the sea. If I really wanted that person, I would of called back and talked about it. So communication on both sides could of been more effective.

Also tbf, it would of triggered red flags to me that this person isn't very organised and could do it again. And when single men on here are dime a dozen, I would of blocked and moved on. Especially if I didn't chat that much with the person so didn't create any real rapport so nothing really was invested. You win some and you lose some.

Just doesn't stack up. As others have said; you've got a van parked outside but no keys. How did they get home? How long would a taxi take to arrive, how late would you have been? So many questions.

As for being blocked; so many profiles on here state 'no time wasters'. Probably the last time that happened to them the other guy used the same excuse!

About 3 feet away from the fence

This is why last minute dot com meets are usually a bad idea. No time to prepare, you're rushed off your feet & you end up forgetting something.

Don't beat yourself up over it.

he hasn’t replied because he hasn’t been online since they posted the comment, come on cut him some slack, he made a mistake and you live and you learn, if he’s serious about being on the scene (like very few people are) then i’m sure he will learn from it and be more organised for future meets
