After reading a pretty heated post about condom use and testing I was wondering what people generally consider as regular?

Personally I go every 6-8 weeks and have every test and swab going regardless of who with and how I have played. I also choose to use condoms with anyone except my regular partner.

I recognise that is a personal choice of mine and I'm not looking for this to descend into a bareback versus condom debate, I'm just interested as 'regular' is a word very much open to personal interpretation.

I have swabs vaginal and mouth ever 4 weeks as I see my doctor to get my pain relief for my bad hip sorted. He is aware of what I do and is happy to do the tests, hubby gets tests when I go to. The nurses that do the tests always have a laugh and joke about what we do. Due to me needing regular procedures on my hip I have bloods dome 3 or 4 times a year and the dr always ticks the relevant boxes.

I have to echo that !! As much as I appreciate people's personal pref to go bareback I personally think its sane !!! But back to topic regular is every 8 weeks !! As it can take up to six for anything to show ..... As some nasty lil infections can hide away

All I can say is life is no rehearsal and you'll only catch IT once !! Deads forever !! Sorry to sound so somber x

I am testing every 4 to 6 weeks regardless of play. Only exception is should I get carried away or decide to go bare. Then for others safety I go without sex till I've had 3 months of clear tests. This is only for random bare play though. Regular play meets I test as normal

I mostly don't have full sex. I when I do mostly use condoms but I always taste cum. And never use condoms for oral.

I get tested every 3 months, use condoms for penetrative sex but never orally.

The nurses at the clinic are aware I'm a swinger, so I get all the tests available and I'm always given advice not to play orally if I have a mouth ulcer, bleeding gums etc etc, as there is an increased risk.

I also can have a laugh and a joke whilst in the stirrups ..last time I went there was a new doctor who asked why I go for such regular testing. I told him I was a swinger, but he misheard me and thought I said a 'swimmer'..it took him a few moments to work out why the nurse was busy demonstrating the breast stroke and had tears running down her face from laughing !!

Yes, unless you're a virgin!

Some viruses lay dormant, so its always worth having a check up.

Yes in all honesty.

Lets say your last test come back all clear. But only a week or two before you took the test you had a play. The common misconception is that cause the test was clear you ok. Massive no no. Some nasties can take 4-8 week before making themselves known. So id recommend to be on the safe side, if you played upto 8 week before your last test its best to have another.

Also tests are free. So why not go as often as possible, there is nothingto be ashamed of or embarrassed about anything. Its best to go regular simply for your own piece of mind x

Depends on the timescale since I had last had any sexual contact I guess. Even if I only played once with someone new and it didn't necessarily involve penetrative sex I would go for testing once soon afterwards and once again a few weeks later just to make sure nothing had shown up later. If I didn't play with anyone after those two clear tests then I may increase the gaps between testing until I am playing regularly again.

I've never asked you to sat bareback is safer.

Your only as clean as your last check up. Anything between then and now is unknown.

Of course wearing condoms illuminates a element of risk, but the only sure fire way of knowing your clean is to have regular checks, that's whether you play with 4 a year or 4 day.

I haven't played for a while now. My last test was clear and latest went off on weds of last week. If that ones clear and I don't play over Xmas I'll still be getting checked at next Drs appointment.

You can't do no more than make sure your clean and healthy. Or as you said it might be worth considering giving up lol

I think we all acknowledge that along with any recreational sex there comes risk..weighing up how you manage those risks has always got to be a personal decision. I unfortunately will never accept what a play partner tells me about their past sexual behaviour at face value (nor would I expect anyone to do the same with me) which is why regular testing is a necessity.

What makes me laugh is when they have a good nosey at your fanny first and say it all looks healthy down there. Four times a year i get checked sometimes more for clymedia as everytime they go downstairs they seem to want to test you for clymedia

I have finally found a disadvantage to having a hysterectomy..thanks to having no cervix I have to have urethral swabs as well as vaginal. Small price to pay though !!

I did a urine test, but that only checks for chlamydia and gonorrhoea doesn't it?

And surely because herpes can remaim dormant for years and in some cases you never have any symptoms, how can anyone be 100% certain they're 100% 'clean' all the time.

what frustrates me, are all the people who don't do safe oral, yet have never been tested in all their lives.

I'm very open and honest with people and the clinic nurses that I dont practice safe oral sex, which is why I go for throat swabs more regularly than the whole lot of tests every 3 months.
