Kinky, Erotic or Vanilla

I once read somewhere that "Using a feather is erotic, using the whole chicken is kinky"

So, lately I've been asked what my kinks or fetishes are. As far as I'm aware, I am unashamedly vanilla, I don't have a list of kinky things I do or want to try, and don't think I have a fetish.

However,I guess it depends on how people define kinky, fetishes and vanilla, I confess to being uneducated in the matters of kink and fetish, so at what point does sexy fun become kinky or involve a fetish?

Kink for me as a definition is anything sexual that you particularly like. "That's your kink".

Anything fetish is anything alternative sex, the bdsm side of things. So fetish can be kink, but kink doesn't always have to be fetish.

One of my biggest kinks is thigh high boots.

So the fact that I simply must wear stockings for sex is a kink and not vanilla? So a kink isn't necessarily unusual, it could be as vanilla as wearing stockings but turns into a kink if it's almost a prerequisite for me?

That's how I've always run with it. As always there's variations, but I think it breaks it down into simple basics.

The technical definition of a fetish is where there is a specific item or experience required for arousal and that item or experience is other than straight vanilla sex. That can run from very ordinary experiences or items to the exotic.

Although some definitions tie kink to an unusual item or experience that arouses and gives sexual pleasure, I think the definition should include the item or experience giving pleasure or a thrill. Boot blacking, domestic service, wearing latex (for some) may be thrilling but not arousing.

Soo if you can only have sex with stocking on and it is not a choice, it is a fetish.

The amusing thing is the number of people that have a fetish or are kinky and don't know it.

I’d say I was extremely kinky Xx most of which would be frowned upon here in that sense I prefer the fetish life place but I do enjoy the forums here. Having said that I can be very vanilla and be fulfilled if I’m very intimate and fond of the person x always evolving and no two sessions are the same

Good explanation. I do have sex without stockings but if I had a choice I'd wear them as I like the feel of them.

I would make one other comment.

Kink and the erotic overlap, hence you hear of sensual domination and as an example flogging with silk floggers.

Similarly erotic and vanilla overlap, as an example a vanilla activity like a massage can be erotic.

There would be a few competent people on here (and who have a profile on the site that can't be mentioned) would he happy to discuss kink and fetish with you.
