"So reading another thread it struck me that preferences are defended about size, colour, sexuality and eye colour. But add a life style indicator such as professional and people get so worked up. Why? Can we come up with another generic term that is less offensive to so many? " If people are choosing to be offended by it, I'd think that is their own problem. I don't see why people should have to change their wording just to keep grumpy people happy

"Too many people are confusing income and professional. It is possible to have a lower income as a professional than someone who is a manual worker. " Very true. I know plenty of teachers, solicitors and barristers who work who earn a lot less than a well paid tradesman.

"You've stolen my thread! But it's ok you can have it Yes, but you must admit, it was stolen in a very professional manner! " It was rather, wasn't it My intention was to turn it on it's head. Funny thing is as I am semi-retired, now more of an artist than an employee I can no longer declare myself as a professional if it's work related. Though I think I understand enough about the world to not be put off contacting someone who did put the dreaded word onto their profile if they were looking like a good meet for J and myself.
