Is there a population of wild, big cats in the UK?

Just a random discussion, but I’m beginning to come around to the idea that there might just be a very small population of breeding wild cats in the Uk,

Not so much lone escaped zoo animals or from illegal pets but during lockdown I spent a few days wandering around on the moors near Winter Hill, lancs. And it struck me that there’s a very definite ‘tide mark’ above the urban area from there all the way to Macclesfield and beyond to the South, and East to Yorkshire and North to Scotland.

I didn’t see anyone else usually once up and away but the variety of wild Deer and other wildlife was a revelation.

Any Cats like Lynx or Puma sized could roam without being seen all over there, plenty of wild game for them to eat and the weather is temperate so they exist in much hotter and colder climates.

And recently saw cat cross the road in front of me in the headlights that was no ordinary Moggy- the taut skin was stretched over something like Arnold in his heyday. The colours were Leopard like but the Dashcam wasn’t too distinct and it wasn’t too big but say Small Collie sized.

A bit of googling showed there is actually a breeder of Savannah Cats about 10 miles away that are f5 so very likely one of those-not too removed from a wild Serval but just got me thinking.

Anyone else had any encounters?

Years ago I found a roadkill big cat cub at the side of the A30 in Cornwall. It was pretty manky but clearly no domestic cat, with a dappled coat like a Lynx. I reported it to the authorities but never heard anything back.

I'm guessing not, as I suspect that they would have been discovered by now. There have been a number of investigations before and I imagine that these would have uncovered evidence of their existence
