Looking to join a gym in notts. but need a motivating person to help me. I have joined gyms in the past and stopped going due to the fact I couldn't motivate myself. I've come to the part if my life where I think I should actually try and have at least one muscle on my body.

So if any if you go locally please get in contact male or female .

Thanks. Will

That's exactly how I am, I have no motivation unless I'm stressed or someone to go with. Unfortunately, Nottingham is abit too far for me

i am self motivated.

set myself a target and go for it.

ipod staked up with aggressive rock fuels the fire.

as soon as i leave the gym all the aggression stays there.

The only competition is yourself. Try and beat yourown goals.

Motivate yourself. Dont look for others to motivate you because a time will come when you will have to face it all alone.

"I've come to the part if my life where I think I should actually try and have at least one muscle on my body."

I have good news! If you didn't have muscles you would be unable to stand up, or move. Investigation would show you have numerous muscles.

So, no need for the gym after all.

That's marvellous, and well done to you.

Out of interest, how does that help those who struggle to motivate themselves?

This thread is asking for help which using it to "big yourself up" doesn't provide.

You claim not to like others putting people down to make themselves feel better, but this is another form of just that.

Best of luck to the OP. I know just how difficult finding the motivation can be. I've been intending to get back to the gym for several months now.

Brighton - even Hove!

I'm a member of a gym down Brighton Marina and go at least once per week however, since Ive been active on here, I've been sat pedalling slowly and half heartedly and being on FAB instead and eyeing up everyone there wondering if they are on here. I must take up horizontal jogging again....

And what exactly did your previous post bring to the thread?

I agree with parader and pope, self motivation via rewards or goals is the only way to go

Hi, I joined a gym recently and have enrolled the help of a personal trainer, i have an hour a week with him on a monday afternoon and boy - does he motivate me! He pushes me but also encourages me and sets goals - ask if they have them at your gym - well worth it! Z

Join alone and encourage people to come with you when you join together if someone stops going the other one has an excuse. If you start alone its easier to keep going.

Your not far from dw in nevo. I don't personally like the place as it doesn't suit my needs but they have personal trainers there and eventually Ull get to know people who will push you where needed.

"And what exactly did your previous post bring to the thread?"

Light-hearted humour.

Certainly not an attempt to use someone else's comment about finding something difficult as an excuse to post about how great I am.

"fighting through the pain"? puhlease.

you are gonna find it very difficult to find a gym buddy. first you are asking someone else to motivate "you". if you cant motivate yourself what makes you think anyone else wants to try. Second youll need to find someone at a similar fitness level otherwise it doesnt work at all.

Whats the obsession with muscles ? unless you want to become a body builder (your lack of motivation suggests you dont) you have already defeated yourself. Muscle takes a long time to build unless you are on steroids. If thats your goal you are going to get disheartened. I would concentrate on making fitness a part of my life and training hard at least 3 times a week. If you want a good motivator i would reccommend "fit for life" by sir Ranulph Fiennes. good luck

That's one way to look at it I suppose. Though, we could also ask why someone who admits they can't motivate themself and gives advice not to go to a gym would take such exception to probably the best bit of advice on

If you're not a gym person, but still want to exercise and strengthen yourself, why not just stick to bodyweight exercises like press ups, pull ups and bodyweight squats? You can also try shovelgloving (google it) which is rather fun, but don't do it indoors

Join a gym and put a note on their notice board. There are always people looking for a training partner.

You need to make the first move. It's pretty much the same on here. You make your own luck.

Be a doer, and good luck

Am I alone in thinking the word 'training', sounds a bit daft when used in the gym sense?

I'm not training for a fight/ competition or anything, I'm just lifting weights at the gym.

Sounds sooooo serious. Lol. Dare I say...pretentious, almost...

You're 'training' your muscles to be stronger. Admittedly most guys do it for reasons of vanity (which is fine, we all want to be more attractive to the opposite sex - or same sex if thats your cup of tea), but for many simply getting stronger is a worthy enough goal in itself.

I'm training to stay active for the rest of my life. Been in the gym for nearly 40yrs now.

You wouldn't think it to look at me though, lol, but at 55 I can still bench 10kgs over my body weight for a set of 8 reps.

I'm no where near as strong as I was even 2yrs ago, but I'm the strongest Grandad at our gym

We're also 'exercising' those muscles to be stronger. Rocky was 'training' because he was set to fight Apollo, Drago, etc.

Just my opinion.

Anyway, regardless of what you refer to your workouts as, its well known that listening to 'Hearts on Fire' or 80s power rock in general will make your efforts 100% more heroic

I like 80s music in general but really don't think power ballads belong in the gym - I mean, if you're doing Bench Press and start belting out 'You're the Voice' as you lift then don't be suprised if your spotter starts pressing DOWN on the bar.
