Start with a very thin one, then build up. There are also lubes that help relax things. Rubbery types probably best to start, i have a diamante one which is lovely cool metallic but is too big between my cheeks on the outside after a while.

I've had very mixed results with anal play.

If it's not for you then don't force it on yourself.
