It seems to me people kind of triage the order of importance of what clothes need to be removed for sex. When they are driven and full of lust the main thing they want to do is get down to it. So I think socks come as the last item in priority. So everything has come off by the time you get to socks and all want to do is get your hands on that person. Then by that point you realise the socks aren't a barrier to sex but taking the time to take them off is a frustration too far. To be fair I think this reasoning is often subconscious.
