So just out of curiosity what do you mean by gym fit. I myself have been bootcamp/cross fit for many years and completed many a mud run or tough murder type event but have a slight tummy which never wants to shift unless I was to eat nothing but rabbit food. So for me I feel the "gym fit" thing is confusing.

"You all look great!

Gym member here. I was a member at my local council gym until my new job reopened their onsite site gym, albeit basic, but sufficient. I also cycle to work a couple times a week and invested in some weights and a rower for son’s old bedroom for working out at home, when struggling for time and wait times going to the local gym.

It’s funny when you tell people you workout that they assumed it’s due to loosing weight. Whilst that’s an advantage, it’s solely for my bone, muscle and well being health. With the added advantage of being able to ‘straddle’ for much longer.

Now you're beginning to sound like the kind you're speaking up against (facepalm).

I used to feel similar, there is a toxic culture within gym's, along with the social media aspect together that really does highlight narcissistic traits.

But, it's not all like that, granted there are some 'popular' gym's that attract the 'popular' crew.

There are many more though.

That's not the only gym culture.

There are places where it's based around people that care about their health and fitness more than image.

I found a brilliant place, everyone in there are so supportive of one another, and we'll meet up outside of the gym a few times a year, we've been bowling, out for drinks and food.

In fact we're in the process of arranging another night out together.

I understand your viewpoint, your fears maybe, but I'll tell you, yes there's an element of that, but find the right place and your viewpoint will change so much.

I'm not being offended, not in the slightest, in fact you'll see that in my initial response to you. I'm pointing out that referring to people you have not even met as an arsehole is in fact ironic (for want of a better word).

You misunderstood... opinions should be kept to oneself - particularly if they are offensive. I go to a gym. I'm not a 'self appointed arsehole' and neither are the majority of the people I encounter in my gym. Sure there are a few in every walk of life, but to make such a bigoted, arrogant and broad statement speaks a huge amount about your lack of social skills and respect for the other users in this forum.

I sincerely hope you have a happy and fulfilling life given your narrow-minded view of other people.

There's a huge difference between expressing an opinion where it matters and behaving the way you have here.

This thread began as a question on who likes a particular body type.

You used that to attack anyone that has the nerve to go to the gym, whether for image or health/fitness.

You're not expressing an opinion, you are showing the same toxic traits that you claim to speak against.

Your words are a reflection on you, not others.

Opinions are like ar$e holes. Everyone has one, but no one wants to hear them.

Correct, makes me laugh how some people on here get offended so easily!

Be straight with yourself, your post was attacking, offensive and down right rude.

I noticed you ignored my post, that because it wasn't an offended comment and instead constructive?.

Get over yourself. What's the point of a forum if people can't have an opinion? My opinion is that Gyms are full of arseholes, simple.Stop being so easily offended and move on, life's full of arseholes, it's life.

I'm not being offended, not in the slightest, in fact you'll see that in my initial response to you. I'm pointing out that referring to people you have not even met as an arsehole is in fact ironic (for want of a better word).

Your choice of input here doesn't highlight others to be arseholes (shrugs)

My experience of going to a gym is that the people in them are arseholes!"

Do you think that’s your perception because you felt you didn’t belong? Just playing devils advocate here.

Might be more about the chip on your shoulder perhaps? Most serious gym goers don’t take any notice of other members and would probably be really supportive if you approached them

It's a forum and I'll answer where I see fit, you are not the owner of me!

Sorry but I won't keep my opinions to myself, if we all kept our opinions to ourself the world would be a perfect communist state where one person's rules and opinions are the only ones to be considered.

As for you going to the gym, I'm happy for you, truly I am.

I'm not narrow minded that's your opinion and you've done what you said people shouldn't do by giving your opinion!!!

Crazy world we live in, eh

There's a huge difference between expressing an opinion where it matters and behaving the way you have here.

This thread began as a question on who likes a particular body type.

You used that to attack anyone that has the nerve to go to the gym, whether for image or health/fitness.

You're not expressing an opinion, you are showing the same toxic traits that you claim to speak against.

Your words are a reflection on you, not others.

"

You've nailed it here for me

Totally agree. Our gym is one of the most inclusive environments that I've experienced. Clients include wheelchair users, someone with cerebral palsy, people with special needs, morbidly obese, average people, young, old and super fit. Everyone gets on great and is very supportive to each other.

Wirral

We both have been in the past prior to lockdown, we've both started trying to get back to the condition we were in prior to COVID.

It's gonna be tough but we're gonna give it a go.

Exactly that, not every gym is a social media hotspot.

Exercising isn't only for the vain, there are many reasons and many types of people that work out in a gym.

Not today, I'm taking a couple of days off.

I've smashed it this week though, really trying to get my fitness back to before the accident I had in March.
