Just wanted to ask peoples opinions about ages on profiles seeing as i just saw a thread about something similar and it reminded me....

A while back a single female contacted me and to cut a long story short on her profile she said she was 26 and in actual fact she was 35.

Not a massive difference and i still would have met her if she'd have said she was 35 but when i confronted her she didnt know what the fuss was about and said that it was just artistic liscence, NOT lying, as i think it was.

In my opinion if she was telling fibs about that...what else was she stretching the truth on?

But is it something women feel is acceptable? Where do we draw the line? I felt a bit cheated to be honest!

I think her attitude was weird. It's pointless lying about your age because with one or two exceptions it's usually obvious it's just that people are too polite to point it out.

I don't think it's acceptable to lie about your age but normally you can tell anyway. I had a guy that is on my hot list that is now 2 years younger than he was when I met him 2 years ago lol

Age is just a number and Ive been honest about mine..... But wish I hadnt as alot of ppl seem to draw the line at 50...... Im attracted firstly with my eyes not a number......

Ive just joined pof as a 46yo...... Most ppl dont believe Im 51 anyway lol

I met a woman some years ago, and it turned out she was the other side of the 40 mark... didn't bother me, didn't make me worry if she'd lied about anything else, just thought "why did you need to do that?".

It's about personal hang ups more than anything else, and since then I have definitely seen one or two where I've thought they definitely are telling lies!

And on the other hand I've seen young guys with ages bouncing between 18 and 25 depending on who they are after. One I was chatting to in my local area admitted he was a bit younger than the site allows too

Drop and block! If I'd known about the report option at the time I'd have done that too.

Have to agree.. on a site like this i think honesty should be a given really.. and if you are not happy about your age you shouldnt feel it right to lie about it.. people need to be happy in their own skin...that includes age.. hubby is 13 years older and its great.. but on here people need to be allowed personal choice and not other telling lies to get a shag thats the problem..

not obtaining shags by deception... lol

Im 43 and very proud. Feel younger.. but at the end of the day I am what I am, no good pretending to be otherwise as I'd only be fooling myself.

Yes age is just a number..its not how old you are its how you carry it off! If that makes sense

I remember meeting a woman who told me she was 36. I was like ok.....(I never was good at predicting ages, but I wasn't going to cause myself self harm by saying she looked older :P)

After we had a little fun, she confessed she was 43, which crept up to 46 by the time I left. After several meets, I found out she was still married, not quite single as she had first made out. By that time I thought I'd just take whatever came out her mouth with a pinch of salt lol.

Some people have no idea what open honesty is.

I have had a few younger ones add an extra couple of yrs to their age and it was pretty obvious when i met them, but there is a 46 yr old women on here who is actually 60, each to there own but i would go mad if a man lied by that much to me!!!

We met a single girl who said she was older than she was because she thought we wouldn't meet her if she was that young!

To be honest if people change their age to get meets it is up to them. We are not judgmental.

Its not just age people lie about, body size and shape is a big one, that annoys me more than age, because these people generally have no photos, so you look at the description, decide to chat, eventually get a photo and they are nothing like what they say. If your a big person be honest,

I think when you read that people only wamt to meet others under 50 you have to ask what do they think happens over night when you go from 49 to 50 ??/ LOL I can understnd that there are people who lie so that they are "under" 50 but then thats the way it is --- i am tony 23 from kent !!! I was just wondering, and I know this thread is about people being untruthful about their age, but nonetheless how about being truthful about your size?

I am personally not too bothered about people being a few years younger or older than they say they are.. as long as it it isnt a massive discrepancy like 10 years or more. I am not bothered about people saying they are size 14 when perhaps they are 16 ... I might think it a bit odd if they said they were size 14 and turn out to be size 28 though. It is all a bit relative I guess

I know that people manipulate their ages to get around filters - 35/ 40/50 being the main ones, from my experience. There's at least one regular forumite who's age is about 5 years younger than what it is in reality for this reason! :D

I've met men who lied that they are both older and younger than they actually are. And I know several women who lie too.

Our ages are correct - I think our actual birthdate in the month may be incorrect, but the months and years are correct (if that makes sense!) I see no point in lying because I'd forget I'd lied and would slip up far too easily. ANd it's not worth the bother!

totally agree.. i am overwieght and dont hide the fact.. if i try and claim to be a size 16, i think its gonne come out as obvious when we meet lol

i am honest about being a size 22-24..and always mention this if im serious about meeting someone, doubel check with them

Age is irrelevant I am 54 yrs but on my profile there is a mistake that make me 43yrs but now i am seeing ongoingly a young woman of 24yrs. We are together for about 4month now n she want to see me why?

Having read a few profiles on FAB we have decided to change our ages by a legally binding statutory declaration. We accept that some people "age" better than others but we have observed a few profiles where the ages of the individuals cannot be correct. We know there is a recession but we think this has forced some people to dramatically reduce the years they have been on this planet.

Not a big difference?I'd say knocking 25% off your age is pretty significant....

Yes i agree with _inktherapy,a lot of people lie about their age to get around the filters,and i also know guys that pretend to be older for this reason..

I know one guy quite well and he changes his age every few weeks ranging from 31 to 39,this really cheesed me off so thought i would lower my age by a few years..5 to be exact !!!! No one on my friends list seemed to notice or just didnt mention it so i kept it at that,i think 48 looks nice...ha.....but i would always tell anyone that im chatting to my real age..

I once had a meet with a chap who told me his age and then through the normal course of the meet he mentioned that he had joined the army in 1979. Whoops, that would have made him 9 by his maths. I've heard of boy soldiers, but that would be taking the piss.

We were contacted by a couple the other day she was 52 he was 42.

A few hours later the exact same message was sent to us by the same people using a different profile she 42 he 42.

When we contacted them asking if they were the same people who had contacted us earlier & how old they were, they replied that she was actually 52 then changed age on the profile that said 42!

Ok they did come clean but this is about trust if they could lie about that what else could they lie about?

As I have mentioned before, the only time I fibbed about my age was to obtain a freebie Chlamydia test kit which are free issue to those who are under 25.

I did feel bad about it, and shall pay for it from now on, as it is not that expensive, and I don't need it that often.
