"No as most are private clubs. Therefore not against the law. And to be honest if it wasn't like that most places wouldn't stay open for long Cali" I disagree. Private members’ clubs are given a special mention in the Government Equalities Office Report. The report states: “The Equality Bill will make it unlawful for associations, including private members’ clubs, to discriminate against members, or guests of members invited to a club. We recognise that there are positive benefits to having clubs for people who share a characteristic and we understand that it is important for groups of people to have their own space. This is why we have no intention of changing the position of single-sex clubs or clubs for people with a shared characteristic, for example, gay clubs or clubs for people of a particular religion. However, the Equality Bill will mean that clubs which admit a range of members will have to treat them all equally."

"As half of all couples are male there is no sexist discrimination. Just a rule against unaccompanied male entrance and there fore well within there rights. " But it's not as simple as that. If single females were denied entry on the nights single males are not allowed entry then your point would be correct. However single females are allowed entry on "couples only" nights. The people who aren't allowed entry are males. The differentiator between a single female and a single male is their sex. Similarly, gay male couples aren't allowed in most clubs on "couples night". This is unlawful under the Equality Act as the differentiator between a straight couple and a gay couple is their sexual orientation. Gay female couples are presumably allowed entry so a gay male couple is then being discriminated against on the grounds of their sex. Anyway, I've made my thoughts on the subject of discrimination clear on several occasions so I fear I'm just repeating myself here.

"Is this a joke? Sex discrimination laws? There are many clubs to suit everyone all over the uk. We have two near us, one always allows single males the other does not, we go to both. Just find a club that suits you. All these daft laws, no wonder we are getting ourselves in such a mess. " I agree. Women are now ruining my local golf course because of this Act... when will this madness end?

"You can make yourself clear as often as you like but it doesn't change the fact that a club over run with single guys will simply be a dead duck . No single girl , no matter how greedy , would entertain a club with no limit on how many single guys can attend - and nor would couples ! And the single guys would stop going as there would only be fellow guys to play with ! It's a futile suggestion that laws are there to stop it - single girls will always be welcomed to accommodate single guys and couples - it's just simple common sense surely ? " I actually agree with you, hence why I said earlier that it would be detrimental for everyone if it's ever enforced. My heart tells me it's wrong to discriminate (even positively) but my head tells me that in this case it's a necessary evil.

I think in reality your interpretation of the law, Carambar is correct, however, unless someone, somewhere decided to take a club to court to persue the argument it's unlikely it will change. I recently communicated with Xtasia Club in West Brom, because as a single male member I wanted to know if they'd consider having a mixed saturday night maybe once a month. They replied that they had actually tried this and communicated it to the members via an email newsletter, only to find that many of their regular couples didn't turn up on the Saturday in question, thus as a business idea it was doomed. Interestingly, this NYE, Xtasia have made the night open to all club members and about 1 month ago they posted that they had loads of couples going but just one single guy, I don't know if that status has changed in recent weeks.
