Are private house parties a thing of the past now?

10 years ago when we joined Fab there always seemed to be a lot of parties going on. By that i mean acctual parties. 6 plus people. We would see them streamed in the chat rooms for all to enjoy or we would often see them them posted on the meets / events section in our area. We attended numerous ones ourselves.

Then we noticed they kinda dried up in about 2018 in our spesific area (or at least within a distance we could reasonably travel to at the time). There seemed at that time a shift more towards clubs as well.

Then covid happened and not seen single one posted in our region since.

Now we are not saying house parties have ended here. We are just saying we havnt seen them in our area for a long time. Is it the same elsewhere or is it a case if people shifted more to clubs and covid puts people off them now?

We've tried to do a few ourselves when we knew we had a free house but it would.always end up as small affair since people would cancel last minute so weve stopped trying.

Bridlington.

The last paragraph sums up the problem: trying to get people to confirm that they are coming then some cancelling or just not turning up at all.

Having a place where I can accommodate a 'gathering' I do get asked to host and seemingly then get asked to start to make up the numbers with my own contacts.

I know that the club scene is a popular option but that is not for everyone for various reasons.

That said, when they happen and work it is really wonderful!

We have a couple who host a party once a month at theirs. It is hard work getting other couples to attend , and I raise my cap to them for trying each month to get a group of like minded couples together.

So yes private parties do exist and can be fun

I used to live just North of London and regularly attended private house parties prior to Covid. Great events each and everyone of them. I am now living in North Devon and have been unable to get an invite to a private house party so am wondering if the OP is correct in that they don’t happen anymore or perhaps the local scene here is just very quiet.

This is a very good question.

We used to get constant invites to parties. However, we've not had one since covid.

We’re interested in party invites. Pre covid we tried to host ourselves and not one person replied!

When we first joined Fab about 5yrs ago we noticed that there were occasionally house parties in the 'arranged meets' section in distances we could fairly easily drive to. Being new & cautious when we contacted the hosts to find out how we could join them, the responses were quite vague. Understandably they wouldn't want to go giving out details too easily especially with fairly new members but we also needed assurances that it wasn't just a hoax. Speaking on video call like WhatsApp would seem to us to be the best option for both sides to ensure we're all genuine. But both times the hosts went offline and we never saw them online again.

This was pre Covid.

Could have been that there was already enough people at the party & they didn't need the hassle or they didn't think we were compatible with what they were looking for or they got distracted by the sex games or it was a hoax.

Not seen any house parties Surrey/Hampshire since rejoining. Thing of past and possibly for the best.

When you say it's hard work getting couples to attend, is it because they don't contact to say they're interested or because you out the ones you don't want.

They’re definitely more far and few between nowadays.

A good few years ago it was all about the house parties. We’d attend them at least once or twice a month. Amazing times!

We just wish we had the kind of house to be able to throw them ourselves but know we couldn’t keep it hush from the blummin neighbours.

There were definitely private parties occurring when we first joined Fab. Also know a few people who attended social events and would often be invited back to a party when the pub closed. Not seen anything recently though but suspect Covid is a big factor....

Being in London you would think there are loads but not really. Also having organised one they are really hard work! Literally emailing double the number of people you want to try and get some. I must have emailed 30+ couples and we ended up with 6 attending

This is so true. I have been swinging on and off for almost 2 decades. When I started house parties were the norm and clubs/spas were an occasional treat.

After one of my longer breaks that lasted five years everything had changed. Clubs were everywhere and even private parties were now monetized which I think is a real shame.

I did however get an invite to a private party for the first time in years just last week. Talk about nostalgia

We’ve started over inviting just in case. Plus a good WhatsApp group in the lead up helps everyone interact and stay committed.

Oh and we never charge. We’ve found the recent ones where someone hires a hotel room for £150 and then charges the 10 couples they’ve invited £40 is slightly crass.

N Peterborough.

We did host a small party at ours after a gb got cancelled due to timewasters.

Neighbours are too nosy, it's easy these days to record stuff and post on local fb groups so it's not worth the potential aggro.

I don't see anything wrong with charging to cover room costs. Surprised at our last gb only 1 out of 6 guys contributed to the room, nonpayers are now blackballed.

It hard getting couples to attend. Many make enquires and ask for details then fail to attend. I know every month at least two couples fail to attend. As they like to keep the numbers small when a few couples don’t attend it not only spoils the party but stops others from attending.

between couples and women there are still a few going but very private and select as in friends ... the ones we know of no longer have single men due to the problems its caused them ie after the parties and online trolling and abuse on guy went around giving one couples addy out willy nilly ...

we go sometimes but bot too often as couples are really not our thing unless they are interested in cuckolding

it does seem nuts but when you get messed around as much as these couples who organise these parties do then its also totally understandable

We've tried to do hotel parties in London since they re-opened but really hard to get the critical mass. Maybe we need a Fab section just for parties so we can see which ones are happening and who is going.

We were thinking about hosting a Halloween party! Thing with us is we are happy to have a few single males as that’s our thing but some couples might not like that and if you worried if a couple cancels or no shows then might be way outnumbered and how do you get the balance right? Not ruling out but just seems a lot of planning and vetting to be potentially let down a lot as that seems quite common

norwich

definately a lack of parties for sure in Norwich, and no clubs either

My friend and I tried some socials before covid, to try and get meeting mix of people in person not behind screens, which a lot of people want socials after messaging a bit before any fun meets, so thought this could help, especially if single ladies needed a bit of company / back up? also meet people you might not come across in messages etc, and also can help then get verifications that you have been seen in person and are who you say etc. We still had the same problems of many messages, but then not a lot turning up? some did, and appreciated them. SO, we are now doing them again, and monthly for a while, so people have advance notice they are happening and where etc, to plan to come to one or two. The first went well, so hopefully more will come to future ones and better mix etc.

We are hoping, that there may even be someone with a bigish house to maybe organise a party or we would even love to maybe hire a place and organise a party or even weekend swingers event, but, finance is the big thing, and we would have to book places in advance and be paid for, to make sure we covered the costs? ( we have heard there has been some "camping weekends for swingers, and been charged £200/£300 a person, and the tents being crap, only matresses on the floor, no proper food available, etc ) and people go back ???? so we were wondering if an actual rented house / holiday home for about the same price might be an option?? but still have the problem of who would want to come, actually book to come? etc - so still in the thinking stage lol

But would love for more couples and singles to come to our socials for a start xx

Covid and now monkeypox may be a reason. And especially with couples I can get diary problems, although baysitters are not exactly unknown.

But, really, why oh why is it all so very difficult?

One wants to have sex with other people. Having established that as OK to do, I don't quite get why it's such a performance......

Nah. House parties in our area seemed to dry up before that (at least from what we have observed).

The shift went to clubs and from talking to others it just because it was easier. As other said in this thread, no shows seem to be a regular complaint...though with established freinds its a different matter.

That all said, it might swing the other way again due to rising costs.

I know a local couple who also have parties and they have the same problem - a lot of people have become quite flaky so can be difficult to guarantee numbers/at least get a decent number turning up.

As with other meets it tends to be people who have attended in the past are most reliable.

I do enjoy a good fab party

Our area must be the exception on this... there are normally 2 or 3 a month around us hosted by different people (fab users & another app we are on) that all seem lovely and wonderful...

However as much as we keep getting invited group play just isn't our thing I definitely think it is area specific

All those "cam" verifications that people showed which said "we met at a party last night", when us and many others weren't even visiting family. Then when meet veris were allowed to be showed, the numbers who met during lockdown were shocking. There were probably more parties in lockdown than now as clubs were closed.

As a fellow North East Couple we have been invited to a few this year but due to our 2nd child been born at the start of May it wasn't possible for us.

For us anyways private party invites seems very much dependent on who you know and do you have good reputation for been fun, engaging and likely to turn up.

I know one couple who run them don't bother with Fab anymore due to all the time wasters and fantasists, instead they invite trusted friends of friends, people who attend and can perform in clubs etc.
