Have you ever had your message unread but they’ve viewed your profile & either winked at you or added you as a friend but not seeing that you’ve messaged them already lol

If they're inundated with messages your message will go further down the list. If they're not a site supporter they may not be able to see it.

I get to stage I often need to bulk delete so may not even seen the mail

They may of read it then marked it unread again to come back to later.

I do this as sometimes if I leave it on read but not replied I get some, shall we say ‘impatient’ follow up messages
