This I found quite creepy but carried on chatting to find out how he knew these things. It seems that he found my Facebook page through doing a reverse image search on one of my photos which was also on Facebook.

It doesn't bother me that much as I have face pics on my profile but just posting this as a warWhile speaking to someone through massages on here that I didn't know and was from the other end of the country I was shocked that he knew my name and where I worked. Also things like where I had been on holiday.ning to others.

What a sad little creature they must be to literally online stalk someone (to that depth).

Luckily our photos on here are unique from any other form of social media, but that's not to say there are other means to work certain things out.

But what's the end goal by a) doing so and b) informing the stalked the lengths you have gone and information gained

Yes he is blocked now but I am glad that I managed to get him to tell me how he found out the info about me

You can restrict your privacy on f book to not show your photos publicly, it maybe something to consider.

Reverse image is one of the things that sits uncomfortable with me. It’s close to stalking, I know it’s not the same, but it then opens the door to see more private stuff like you’ve experienced op.

* he may not have intended anything more than wanting to find out more about you, but Your story just shows again how careful we must still be as adults.

Asshole should know what worries people, and someone telling another person ‘I know all about you!’ Is worrying.

It's amazing the snippets of info so many people reveal about themselves on here but unfortunately there are others who are very good at putting all those bits of trivia together and building a more complete profile of who and where people are.

Reverse image is often used to determine if a pic is real or borrowed so I don't have an issue with that.

The problem is when they follow up on those searches.

Another example is when 2 people chat on a different platform such as POF without any mention of fab and then one discovers they both have profiles here and decides to get in touch to say they know who the other person is.

That's wrong in my eyes but then again personal info is valuable currency on here for various reasons.

Someone had to point it out to me. I also think it’s a tool for very suspicious and snooping people. … but that’s another story.

Simple solution is not to have the same photos on here as you have on your Facebook profile. Reverse image won't work then.

Yeh it pays not to have all your detail on FB or have the detail available to all the public.

Change your settings on Facebook would be a good idea

Any pics I use for fab are for fab only. Never use a pic here and put on my fb or anywhere else. Years ago I had a couple of guys pop up on my fb who found me using a pic I did have on Facebook. I've also set my settings to friends only on fb now.

O o O oo

There was a post on here where a woman said she had purposly gone on FB to find a person from here and was asking should she out him to his family. The reactions to the posts were totally different to this , most were symphasising as to why she felt the need to trace him and not interested in the fact she was. There was no slagging off of the OP for doing it.

Also, people talk about using a reverse image on people to find out if they are using fake pics, yet a man does it and he gets abused for it.

Funny old world isn't it.

To the OP, once you post on the net everything is out there. Using privacy settings on sites for the things you don't want people to know normally helps.

Also, pics can pop up in the open feed before you set them to friends only. I “liked” one that popped up and the poster was quite upset that it had been out in the wild before they went back and updated the settings.

Clearly it was my fault, obvs

PS it also proves that using reverse image may well bring up pics that that person uses on other sites. It won't always mean people are fake if you find pics on other sites

I definitely reiterate not having the same photos on multiple platforms. Use your privacy settings.

I still had someone from fab message me on fb messenger saying they had found me, but a simple block and delete cured that. Anyone crossing that boundary is just showing the type of person they are.

Hi guys

I've read most of your comments with great interest. As someone who has a great deal of knowledge around Data Privacy and GDPR, I need to point out that once you put any sort of data on an open site, in effect it is really no longer YOUR data. As someone said "open source intelligence".

I wonder how many of you use that same or similar data on FB, SC, LinkedIn, Fabs, etc (even sites such as companies House can provide useful data).

If you want to know how well protected you actually are, start thinking like one of these people and do a search on yourself

I learnt along time ago if your face is on your profile, Someone will find out who you are. I had my whole work place of 300 people secretely email pics of my willy around the office. What amazed me is it was all so called hetrosexual blokes doing it. Why my penis was so popular with them is beyond me. But it did cause a bit of stress for me as i was quite young back then. Now I couldnt care less, But it is quite scary when people do that you got a question whats there motive, Do they want to black mail your or are they try to creep you out. There is some strange ones on this site.

Forget reverse image search. The amount of information you can glean from the backgrounds of a lot of the casual shots on here is incredible, from the simple things like non-smokers that have a full ashtray and lighters next to their beds to full on I can tell you what your job is and where you work.

Cropping and a little thought are your friends!

There is a profile that regularly appears in my local updates with statuses about exactly this and dropping hints about working with the police service and how her colleagues would be amazed if they knew she was on here but then goes on to ask people to seek her out on social media using reverse image search on her pics.

On 1 and 2 profiles ago, I had the very same thing happen - different chaps thought it okay to seek me out on book of face messenger once they knew my name and area (not many ladies share same first name where I am) however my surname is very distinctive so took a different approach in security levels of my account. Not cool to have people invade privacy like that.

If your phone number is linked to your Facebook account/ Instagram etc, the apps will link to your profile when you give people your phone number. So they can easily find you as the apps suggest you as people they know.

That was my thought too but when I first saw her she had been on 6 months and had multiple verifications. The last time I looked she had removed all public pics but had 20+ verifications.

I reverse image Search to see if they're real or catfish, also helps to find out if people are attached or not.

And also got the safety aspect.

It's really easy to find out info if your profile isn't secure.

My Facebook and Instagram are private, and I would have have a photo that's on here, anywhere else.
