Addiction has no rules and no boundaries, if it's what you want, then you can be .

Not an expert on this at all but opinion is that if a person has a addictive nature they probably will have a particular vice to feed the addiction, whatever that vice may happen to be.. So sex, probably is on that list.. Could be worse I suppose

So it could be harmful to any relationship if is not controlled. Things can get easy out of hand.!

My father was addicted to alcohol and once told me, if you think about drink first thing when you wake you're addicted. Same for sex I guess

Anything is addictive if your brain starts to crave it for whatever reason! I wouldn’t say you need ‘control,’ more just to be aware of your boundaries and how far down the rabbit hole you want to go! Communication, enjoyment and the ability to explore at your own pace stop potential problems before they become an issue if you do it right and for the right reasons xx

Bristol.

As someone who identifies as cross addicted, I think it is not necessarily about the number of sexual partners you have but more about the amount of time spent looking or thinking about it..It takes up far too much of my time.

Only you can decide if its a problem or not and only you can make the decision to change things...

Addiction (any addiction) is defined as something you cannot help thinking about/ acting upon etc even knowing it will damage your life/ relationships/ mental/ physical/ emotional well-being.

While sometimes people think it sounds like a wonderful addiction to have... for the afflicted person it is actually outside their control and has every chance of wrecking their life.

There are treatments (including therapy) available.

I hope the last post didn’t come across too vague and unhelpful! It’s hard to talk about an addiction when the level of the issue is circumstantial dependant. From being emotionally involved with people who openly battle through sexual addiction, we understand that the mental battle can be as difficult as the physical desire too! All our best wishes to you while you come to terms with this and hope it works out well for you both xx

I absolutely think it is real. And I have no doubt that I have it. I suppose I’m grateful that I’m not addicted to drink or drugs or gambling - not that sex addiction cannot be equally destructive to someone’s life, happiness and overall well-being, but my experience to date is that those addictions lead to ruin a little more quickly. But if I think of the amount of time I spend (waste?) every day consumed with thoughts about sex? I do struggle to define at what point this crosses the line into being harmful. There have definitely been times when my urges have cost me, in terms of work, relationships, health, happiness. I guess I would describe myself as a functioning sexaholic.

I think I have a sex addiction and have done since I was in my early teens.

It's only problematic if it has an adverse effect on your life. So relationships either intimate or social, family and work of course.

It was an issue in my marriage as we were mismatched sexually. That said it did last 30yrs almost.

I think about sex all day every day

Any sexual activity that feels "out of control". This could be sex with a partner, but it can also mean activities such as pornography, masturbation, visiting prostitutes or using chat lines or fab lol. For most people, these behaviours don't cause any serious problems. But some people are unable to control these urges and actions, despite the difficulties they may cause in their relationships, finances and professional lives. Some people may also have a dependency on sex and sexual activity to numb any negative emotions and difficult experiences. This can have a negative effect on the person's quality of life and on those around them. So yes sex addiction is real.

I agree, it's real. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't. I can just about control it, so maybe not truly addicted, just 90% there.

Yes I think sex addiction is real, or at least the intense feelings/orgasms it generates is. I definitely have a craving/addiction, however you want to label it. But need to recognise it for what it is and try not to let it take over your whole life.

Agree, the endorphins released are addictive. It’s also rather enjoyable and rewarding in other ways

I'm definitely addicted! I actually think about sex, watch porn and want / have sex and sext with others so many times a day. It actually consumes my life. I'm out of control at times with it. I know that but I can't stop myself.

In some people, one addiction fuels another & with some people if one addiction is not available, another will take its place.

I am a recovered alcoholic and yes sex addiction is real.

Addicts normally swap their addictions. It is the person that make something addictive not the sex.

It's the wanting of more, enough is never enough. Unless the person becomes self aware it will destroy you.

I went through some dark times on alcohol.

I think so. I went through a stage for about ten years where it was the predominant thought every day and had alot of sex with alot of people off dating websites. Spent hours trawling those sites, drove all over the place for casual sex in some obscure places with some obscure people.

Am i addicted to sex, no

Am i addicted to cumming, yes i believe so.

It doesnt have to be about sex but i have an overwhelming urge to cum most of the time and if i dont i can get quite agitated.

Sometimes just a simple wank will cure it for a while but sex/oral is obviously better.

"If there was no such thing as sex addiction, we’d all be monks and nuns! "

Not true.

. Sex addiction is awful. It takes over. You get to the stage where nothing else matters.. I would even risk my job for Sex. Did very risky meets... almost lost my whole family due to my addiction. Yes okay it may seem like I've got it well under control these days but it is very easy to slip.

High sex drive is no sexual addiction.
