A few years ago I came out of my house mid saturday morning just as a car pulled up in the field gateway just along the road 2 people jumped out and scarpered into the field so I thought shit they are casing my joint for a burglary so walked up there and by then they were at it hammer and tongs lol I nearly shouted out don't flatten too much grass but discreetly left them to it thinking how lovely and natural.

Yes a couple of time have a favourite spot in one field. Been interrupted twice though so may need to find a new field. Once a helicopter circled for a view of the action and the second was a walker who emerged through the crop. We were way off the footpath by about 60m.

Not easy to explain why 2 guys are entertaining a lady when he is more interested in accusations of trying to set fire to his field as happened the week before.

The summer of 1976 the sun made an appearance in March and stayed with us until October or so it seemed. Living close to a large arable farm I responded to a hand painted sign on the farm gate which read fruit pickers wanted good rates apply within. I knocked on the side door of a picturesque white painted cottage and was greeted by Mrs Jones the farmers wife.

For those of an age and can remember the very early editions of ground force I would describe Mrs Jones as a young Charlie Dimmock. Long curly fair hair a lady that presented a curvy body to die for and for the most part wore a pink Floyd dark side of the moon tee shirt cut off jeans red socks with what appeared to be aged and well worn walking boots. For a 18 and a half year old half way through college this vision was a little overwhelming.

Despite uttering nonsense I was hired by Mrs Jones who demanded I called her Sarah and the deal was done over a cup of strong tea in her kitchen. I remember the tea vividly as if you didn’t drink it you could write a letter with it. I was asked to return after dinner (lunch) as there was an urgent need to pick early strawberries. My hourly rate was £1:25 per hour and a bonus if the orders from the market were fulfilled. I returned as requested and went straight to work in the fields and makeshift strawberry houses. I didn’t think picking fruit could be such hard work but that night I slept like a top.

One hot day followed another hose pipe bans were introduced the stream on the eastern boundary of the farm was all but dry. Mrs J was always asking about my college course and girlfriends. In actual fact since Louise M had binned me for giving her a love bite on her neck the long hot summer of 76 was barren on the girlfriend front. However the 4th July changed my life for ever. To use a fab verification saying I won’t say exactly what happened but I went into the field that morning as a boy and left as a man. I suppose I would liken my experience to Bobby Goldsboro's song of summer.

It happened just the once and that July day was ever spoken about and when the summer came to a close I was thanked for all my help and received a peck on the cheek from Sarah who squeezed my hand whilst doing so.

Later in years I was visiting relatives who still lived in the area and stole my self away to visit the farm but found a housing development of little shoe boxes scattered around where once I picked strawberries.

So yes I have made love in a field and afterwards ate strawberries!

I have many a time but i am a farmer so i think most fields have seen some action of sorts! Cant say ive ever noticed any other people though having fun on my farm but its maybe not the best for parking up discreetly.
