So I read a statement yesterday that had me thinking and wanted other thoughts on the matter.

“Men cheat to stay married, women cheat to leave”

As with all statements it will only apply to some people but if it looks like it might be true lots of people will think it applies to all.

People cheat for loads of reasons and none of them apply to everyone

I think it plays into gender stereotypes.

Men need more than one woman.

Women can't leave a relationship unless they have another man to go to.

It’s easy to generalise and like you mentioned everyone has different reasons for cheating. I’m not debating whether it’s right or wrong each to their own.

Just an interesting statement and wanted other thoughts on the matter. I know a lot of men that only need/want one woman and hate cheating, not sure about woman can’t leave part but very interesting talking point

I was just outlining the stereotypes it was playing in to, I don't believe them either

It's too simple and stops people giving proper consideration to the reasons people do what they do.

I don't like debating the rights and wrongs of infidelity precisely because of these entrenched stereotypes.

Funnily enough I knew a woman who cheated on her husband in order to stay with him

I don't think that's true

Both genders cheat and for v similar reasons on fab,usually they are in sexless relationships or they want to explore hidden bi sides.

Then some people just cheat because that's in their nature ,even if they're happy with their partners.

I think *some* men cheat because of their chronic inability to establish any sort of emotional intimacy with women. They find it easier to get no strings sex outside their relationship than to talk openly with their wife about emotions surrounding sex.

I think *some* women cheat with men who are able to be emotionally intimate. This shows what's lacking in their marriage so they leave

But not all people.

Communication is often the biggest problem, either through inability, embarrassment or just plain selfishness having been on the receiving end in the past it’s both heartbreaking and soul destroying

Personally my husband cheated to leave and moved in with the new woman ???? she did offer rent free accommodation!

But staying on topic. I've known women to cheat because they had got into a relationship early in life and feel they might have missed out. They found sex less interesting now and wanted to find out if it was just "them".

Another girl wanted to test her sexuallity or sexual preference
