Geographically challenged!

Im sorry to rant, and likely the comments will encourage me to give my head a wobble! (Please include the eye rolling emoji so i really know my rant is pointless! )

But….

People who contact you from miles and miles away. Why? I know some people like to travel or work in one city and live in another. I feel rude when i highlight that i’d rather not meet people from further afield. Well i work in your area whats the problem?! arrghh.

Do people make the long distance meets thing work or is it more trouble than its worth?

(Sorry for whinging )

As someone who is a thousand miles away from most of fab, I still like to have people to chat to, but I steer clear of those profiles that have the ‘ten mile radius only’ thing in their blurb. I don’t have high expectations of meets, but on the occasions I do visit the U.K. I have arranged a few so I get that it’s not your thing, but it doesn’t mean it’s not for everyone

You’re very right and some people like traveling for meets, its a bit of an adventure. I get it really do. Its just frustrating when someone contacts you from far away - great profile, great first message but the distance is ‘impractical’.

On weekends I travel around the country due to a sponsership I have outside work but I can choose where I go as long as content is provided. I try to schedule meets around this so for me it's worth pointing this out via message exchanges, distance genuinely isn't an issue and I have zero expectations to play on any meet arranged.

I guess if someone wants to make the effort then fair play (though I’d guess a lot won’t actually when it comes to it). Personally what annoys me more are the “I’m in your area weds for an hour fancy meeting?” brigade.

Same... It's just annoying and not practical at all. I like to social first, so it's a long way to come for coffee.

I don't get the Irish guys that message... You're overseas?! Or the Scottish ones that are 300+ miles away.

I only go to Portsmouth when I take the morning ferry to Jersey but I always get there the night before!

I get a lot of messages from guys hundreds of miles away and they are never too happy to be told no, but I recently had a message from a guy in Michigan US and he didn't just want a meet, he wanted a relationship.

He didn't say, but his messages made me think he was either ignoring the 3800 miles distance or just didn't know the distance.

Not as uncommon a scenario as one might think.

I am surprised by some of the long distance love affairs which I have heard about over the years. Some beggar belief how initial contact was even dreamed of.

I've traveled to Liverpool from Essex for a meet. We'd established a bit of a rapport over a a comment on a thread a bit like this and I made a weekend out of it. We're now quite good friends and it was a fantastic weekend, which we've repeated a few times.

So sometimes no a bit of distance is not always a problem.

That said if it was a cold message to someone I'd never met before i doubt I'd look at more than two hours drive?
