Noob here. I know the answer will be 'It depends' but what is the etiquette about offering to share costs when a poster says meet in a hotel?

As a single man I always assume that I will organise and pay for the hotel, unless the other party says otherwise.

We have only ever met in hotels that we’ve booked and paid for ourselves. Not a principle so much as us having a night or weekend away which includes sex with others - we have never thought of asking for money, we are after the pleasure of their company.
