Hey lovely people just after some advice on here. We have been thinking of getting some boudoir pictures taken and do not want to be ripped off but would like to get some better pictures than those taken by ourselves can anybody recommend anywhere or share their experiences? We have seen some messages and offers from folk who would be willing to take pictures however the ones we would like are specifically wanting a result to look professional and without spending a ridiculous amount of money and of course be trustedin a safe environment. Thanks in advance

I think when it comes to professional photography where it's a saturated marked with ameture photographers you get what you pay for. We want to get a shoot done and have look to load and load of companies and all the good ones are very expensive. Hopefully you find a dimond in the rough. If you do, let us know.

Next Door

I've done boudoir photos done twice.

The 1st one was awful, nothing what I wanted, not nice. This was about 7yrs ago.

Last year, I looked into this again and found a fairly local photographer. Reviewed their work and feed back then contacted them.

I was so pleased with my shoot.

I wasn't pressured in buying any.

I did buy, they were priced reasonably and they are on my bedroom wall.

They give me confidence and since having them done I slowly have starred to fall in love with me.

My advice, discuss what you are looking for and the costs with the studio.

Generally speaking the ads you'll see via google and on social media will be for larger companies that charge minimal fees for the shoot, but outrageous prices for each and every image you want, whether just digital or print. A quick check on the likes of groupon/wowcher etc will highlight these.

Look for potential options via FB and you'll most likely find a small business relatively local, and often with a female photographer which helps you feel more comfortable. There are plenty of good sole trader togs working in this field - it's just a question of finding one near you, or close enough that you're happy to travel.

Don't go for anything offered on here. I can't emphasise that enough. No professional would tout for business on here, do a cheap deal in return for 'fun' and you'll be swamped for offers if you ask.

Any professional photography is an investment, whether boudoir, portrait, wedding or whatever the event, so it will come at a cost - and so it should.

Pay peanuts, get monkeys. But you don't have to pay through the nose either.

Happy hunting.

A

"Also do a forum search, there was a thread on this the other week"

We had not looked on previous thread so that is not a bad idea

For best results, as well as a photographer you need professional hair & make up, a mini wardrobe, stylist, props and either a properly equipped studio or a nice hotel room (see crazy bear hotels) and studio lighting system. As you can imagine the bill would run into thousands which puts it above most folks budget. Therefore one has to cut corners.

Photography is a highly specialist field so you need to choose someone that has experience in Boudoir photography in a style that fits in with your anticipated results. If you have a budget of 1000 pounds, booking a suitable hotel room, investing in nice lingerie/Basque/heels and enlisting a photography MUA with an experienced amateur photographer could potentially yield better results than paying 1000 to a professional photographer. On the other hand I am sure there are creative professional photographers who could still get great results without any of that.

A lot depends on your budget and the quality of those you employ and what you have freely available at your disposal (existing wardrobe).

I can't see the harm in giving amateurs a chance to photograph you as you will learn a lot from the experience and set you on better footing for future decisions. That's provided you can differentiate between a good amateur and a perv with a camera.

The whole "you get what you pay for" approach is definitely the mindset to have here.

Don't dismiss the expensive options straight away. Look at what you're getting in terms of shoot time, outfit changes, makeup included, number of prints, digital rights release... soon that £1000 photoshoot with 10 prints might seem like good value for money compared to the £300 initial package that then charge £150 a print

I have recently done one and so excited to get my pictures. Should be any day now. It did cost me a pretty penny but the confidence it gave me was worth every penny.

I agree with the you get what you pay for replies but that doesn't mean you won't be able to find someone who wants to build a portfolio in that area so might be willing to negotiate in price.

I have a studio so if you were to come to me and wanted multiple prints or edits it would cost you a lot more than if it were at a location you had paid for and you just wanted a couple of digital images, it would be less.

Boudoir photography is a hard one as there's not much of a market for it. It's also dependent on how the model looks. Like I can employ all the creative lighting techniques in the world but if your make up or hair is not right it will show. It's also about how you pose and react to the camera.

I have considered doing this a few times through here but always end up leaving it to focus on other projects. Catch me on the right day though...
