The Upside Down

Totally agree. No way would we go public if we had won that amount of money. Still, good for them.

.

I heard that there was some sort of stipulation that you had to go public or wouldnt recieve 100% of the jackpot. But that may not be 100% true.

If i had won i wouldnt wish to go public.

Well I can exclusively reveal... That it's not me.

It may just about cover the monthly fuel and food bills, so it could have come in extremely handy.

Definitely not true for the National Lottery (I know someone that won years ago) but not sure on Euromillions.

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

It's not true on Euromillions either. That's why the previous UK records is an unknown person

But how could you hide that amount of money so no one you know might think “that’s odd they’ve never had a Ferrari before?”

"But how could you hide that amount of money so no one you know might think “that’s odd they’ve never had a Ferrari before?”"

By not ticking the publicity box, the wider world leaves you alone.

Friends and family can be told a version of the truth, ie that you've had a win, it was very nice, but only big enough to do x,y,z, not one of those crazy jackpots.

It's not so much the people you know but the ones you don't who think they can target you for a share. People close are going to notice you suddenly driving around in a Bentley where you caught the community shopper bus before and actually having the heating on instead of using the radiators to store spare underwear.

It would be impossible to keep secret.

close

The easiest thing would be to move to a more affluent area where noone knows you so you dont have to hide away from people after your winnings

I’ve always said that if I was to ever win a big one, the change in circumstance would be down to selling a product to the government, I can’t talk about it as it’s down to national security.

Even if this was true and the stipulation was “you only get half” that’s still more money than you could know what to do with!!!

Burnleyish (She/They)

I wouldn't. In fact I wouldn't change anything about my day to day living at first. Noone would suspect anything.

Then all my friends and family would get a sizable sum of money in the bank and I'd be the first asking 'did you get money in the bank and an anonymous text this morning - wtf?'

Love this quote from the husband of the couple-

"I couldn't go back to sleep, I didn't want to wake Jess up so I just laid there for what seemed like forever, he said."

I wonder if he was contemplating a runner before his wife woke up!
