As I drive past one every day, I can't help but wonder how these places are still going?

What with Internet replacing porn mags, and online shopping doing the same for toys etc

Just a thought.

Probably doing most of its sales over the Internet just using the shop as a place to store stock with the odd walk in customer.

There's a particular sex shop in Walsall that has something that draws the custom in

The ones on the side of major highways (normally former Little Chef) do a good trade in Truckers I think.

Pulse and cocktails? They have a lot of stock in them.

Some people also like to browse before buying. Can't beat seeing a physical item even in the Jeff Bezos age x

I'd much rather go in a shop and have a nosey around and see things in person. If I had a local shop that had more choice Id go there.

Buying online is a gamble. To see what your looking at and feel the texture and gauge size makes total sense.

Central

Some people like to evaluate the quality of the goods provided by an unknown vendor, before they shell out.

Not everything sold is cheap, or will be used in private, such as clothing, which adds pressure to get it right. If some want it for a club, meet etc, it likewise pushes them towards getting it right 1st time. Or quicker, than postal orders.

Some stores will receive online orders for collection, too. This may fit the needs of people who'd not want neighbours taking delivery, or people they live with from knowing or being curious, etc.

Some may appreciate the expert advice from the staff too.

As others have said, locations draw in some people opportunistically, such as truck drivers, reps etc, at the store just a few miles from me.

Of course, online orders also show on card statements, which some may not want, unlike cash purchases in stores. There are quite a few strengths in having physical stores, as well as comprehensive online stores still.

On the subject of card payments, there used to be a great sex shop on the outskirts of Bristol. When you paid by card DIY Solutions would appear on your statement.

Been disappointed with online buy as they are made to look fantastic. Then in reality they are cheap crap. So prefer to go and look for myself to see what I am buying.its good as well and bit of a turn on being the only female in the shop. All eyes on you watching what your looking at or buying

Have to agree there. It's very sexy taking your* wife in and having her browse and talk about stuff in front of the other (mostly single guy) customers.

Cambridge

Just after the first lockdown ended I happened to be walking past the local shop here in Cambridge and I thought I'd pop in. I spent the next two hours chatting to the woman working in there about all sorts.

We chatted about the lockdown, the sad decline of bricks and mortar sex shops, she recommended a few videos and toys, she told me about her (vanilla) holiday.

She said she appreciated I wasn't just furtively grabbing a video or a toy, flinging money at her and dashing out.

If you've got a shop near you just pop in and have a chat. They're not judging you. And who knows you might find like-minded souls there

I got my fleshlight out of pulse and cocktails. The staff were very friendly and extremely knowledgable
