Good first message is one where its obvious that you have clearly read the profile, states what prompted the message ( a new pic posted,status etc) and tells me a bit about you. Face/body pic a bonus

Worst messages are too many to mention from just 'hey' through to the other extreme of giving explicit details of what they want to do

Exactly this. I know reading profiles and crafting messages takes time, and many people don’t answer, but a generic line of text or two is hardly likely to persuade anyone to meet you. If you’re not comfy with a face pic (I wouldn’t be) a nice body shot is good

A good first message is just something polite or a compliment. A crap one is "hey, it's you isn't it"

If we find them attractive and they are local, then they’ve already got it. There are plenty of things they could do subsequently to lose it, but you can’t beat those first two things.

Send a face pic. You don’t need it in the open gallery (I don’t), but it shows you’re serious and if they don’t fancy you they can delete the message and nobody’s time is wasted.
