I would broadly describe it as a non-monogamous relationship where both have equal 'status' (neither female or male lead) where the wife is shared with another male (or males) without any form of humiliation (cuckold), or exclusion (hot wife), so mostly MFM,MFMM type situations.

There's probably some variation to the above, and of course, I could be totally wrong, but that's my take on it

We've always explained like this:

HotWife - SHE decides who and when she has sex with, with the full agreement of her partner.

Stag & Vixen - HE decides who and when she has sex with, with her full agreement.

Cuckold/Cuckoldress - SHE decides who and when she has sex with, with no regard to his agreement and often including his humiliation in the play.
