Does using condoms make for safe sex?

Nope, the word we are all looking for is 'safer'.

I have met with a few people that say that they dont get checked as they always have safe sex...

yet then slam me because I do on occassion indulge in bareback.. yet get checked very often..

Its good that people point this out.. you would think everyone would know this.. but sadly its not the case.

So what would be your definition of safe sex then?

It's not my definition, but one bandied about in general. If folk are under the impression that condoms are the answer, they are mistaken.

Safe sex is no sex.

I can safely say that's not an option!

I see it exactly the same way as the insurance industry when calculating premiums.

"Risk minimisation"

But, no sex is just that! No sex. Its called celibacy. Lol. How can you say that not having sex means your having safe sex?

Can't. Like my addiction to carbs, I have to avoid at all costs. One glimpse of a live show would have me legs akimbo in the blink of a knats eye. Assuming they have eyelids of course.

That's exactly the point. There is no such thing as safe sex. There are degrees of risk and some are very, very small but sex is never completely safe.

even with the best intentions and safer sex there is always a risk x

Its not as if we stick with the same partner all our lives we live highly sexed lives with multiple partners and that is high risk weather you are straight gay or bi.

Totally agree that there is always a certain amount of risk involved in sex, whether its a smaller risk when using protection to the bigger, more serious risk of going bareback. But, it just doesn't make sense to me, to say that by NOT HAVING SEX is the only way to have safe sex! Where is the sex if your not having any in the first place?

little house on the praire

I use condoms and get checked, to keep myself as safe as i can from std's i use the coil as my pregnancy preventer. I would never swing without using two forms of contraception, although i guess its a very slim chance id get pregnant now.

We can only way up the risks and make our own decisions, i wouldnt play knowing with someone that barebacked but then every meet i have met could bareback with someone else

Even if two people had only ever had sex with each other, it's still not completely safe for each of those people though, is it?

HIV, for example, can be contracted in a number of non-sexual ways. If one contracted it, they could pass it to the other. The risk is minimal but it's not totally safe.

Anyone who has caught a cold sore from a previous boyfriend or girlfriend could pass on an STI without ever having had penetrate sex.

Swapping makes it higher risk, yes, but there is no way to make it absolutely no risk.

Theres an old saying that the only people who catch STD's in a non sexual way are Bishops and Nuns.

People who have contracted diseases which can be passed on sexually through blood transfusions, needle stick injuries, non-sexual contact with body fluids, to name but a few, might disagree with you.
