Menopause

I know this subject has been well covered on the forums and I have read a lot of the threads but this is question for the lovely ladies that have been through it and come out the other side.

I'm 51 and have been having mild symptoms for a few years. Due to having a mirena coil, I've not had a period in years and the doctor has told me that blood tests won't be an accurate way of confirming I'm menopausal due to the increased progesterone via the coil so I've got through up until now on a whim and a prayer.

As I said, I've been fairly lucky symptom wise but my main two symptoms were loss of libido and weight gain.

Thankfully, my mojo seems to be returning with a vengeance but my confidence is at an all time low due to the weight gain, I was never a small lady but always confident.

So my question to you lovely ladies is, for anyone that went through similar, am I ever going to get that confidence back?

Hi OP

I am menopausal and on HRT, which has massively helped me to feel human again.

My libido had never been affected pre HRT or post HRT, so I can't share my experience of that but I have lost confidence in myself as you say. Although a lot of that I believe is not solely menopausal reasoning.

My body has changed over the past 8 years through significant weight lose and becoming a runner 4 years ago. So I have a lot of loose skin on my tummy and this has seriously affected my body confidence. I am addressing this in a few weeks by having a tummy tuck operation.

I am not naive enough to think my body confidence will return immediately post surgery. But, I will be kinder to myself and accept my post surgery body. I am excited to embrace my new scars as a mark of celebration and this in turn will boost my confidence.

I also know how very hard it is to lose weight during the menopause, for example in January I ran and walked 268 miles and ate a calorie controlled intake of food yet I gained 2 lbs that month. I accept that I gained muscle and my body was retaining fluids to aid muscle recovery but it does feel disheartening still when the numbers creep up.

I suggest adding lifestyle improvements to help counter balance the little weight gains, maybe a walk a few times a week for example. Also, being more active particularly during our body change times such as menopause is really beneficial and will give you the feel good endorphins to help manage the fluctuations of hormones.

I wish you all the best OP

I'm going through the menopause, pretty symptom free so far but before I started on HRT I lost a lot of my sex drive, still having sex but orgasms weren't as good. Since being on HRT my orgasms are amazing again and I'm almost insatiable lol!

On the confidence thing after 3 kids I have a tummy and although I work out and eat healthy I'm still conscious of it. I tend to wear something sexy which helps my confidence a lot. Not sure if this helps x

Thank you ladies. I do know I need to exercise more, I'm never going to be gym bunny but now the weather is breaking, maybe some long walks with the dog.

I'm happy(ish) with most of my body but HATE my stomach.

Definitely some new underwear is on the agenda too

I’m peri menopausal according to recent bloods

I put weight on that I couldn’t shift , low sex drive (ffs) and generally felt really crap. Zero energy and self loathing

Stupidly I waited until November to actually going to my docs , putting it firm to the stresses of lockdown and moving house last year.

I’ve been on HRT for the last 3 months. Definitely helping with my overall mood. So much so I’ve concentrated on losing weight and had the confidence to rejoin a gym.

One of the reasons I came away from the scene was my sudden lack of self confidence and anxiety issues

Sex drive is still not fully back but getting there and I’m feeling fitter so that’s helping me to feel sexier

On the exercise front.....have you tried aqua fit or aqua zumba? They are good ways to exercise
