Personally I would look out those in a wheelchair, or "Armoured Personnel Carrier" as they're known to the police

..and the footnote to this story is that an hour later they actually did arrest a d*unken man carrying a Samurai sword.... without even drawing their Tasers...

Its possible they thought he was Zatoichi, the fabled blind swordsman of Japanese legend.

Whilst i think that the police do a great job, i feel that there will ALWAYS be the gung ho type of officers who act first and ask questions later.

Falkirk

Police can be total numpties. I once got stopped for taking drugs and apparently being under the influence of said drug. To which I told the nice officer, I hope im under the influence of it since its a paracetamol and I have a headache... to which he said I was being cheeky and he should arrest me for it.

Safe to say some police are just numpties but its the few that usually spoil it for the majority of good ones out there

should have gone to specsavers - however it is worrying that such incompetent and clueless officers could also be carrying firearms it defies belief

i agree that this is a totally wrong and bad situation that has happened but i know for a fact that there are some very nice and brilliant police officers and also community support officers.............and also front desk staff/background staff who all too often, end up wiping the asses of the obviously incompetant ones.

I think this is a very unforgiveable event that has happened, which i should think that the IPCC will deal with accordingly following investigation.

I feel sorry for all the ones that do a great job that are caught up in the crap thats dealt to them and that happens day to day. just hope that this kind of thing is dealt with correctly and that it doesnt happen again.

was it the boss that apologised or the officer????????? hmmmmmmmmm i wonder

It was the boss that apologised on behalf of the officer involved, as he was out on another call. He was trying to rear end a mobility scooter that had the temerity of doing 10mph in a 30 zone!

My thoughts on those that criticise the police are for them to go and do a better job themselves.

Every walk of life, every occupation there are mistakes made. Its very unfortunate and my sympathies go out to the man involved.

Not one person on this planet is perfect.

And remember, if the man or his family sue the Police, thats less money in the pot for them to spend.

Ok lets play devils advocate, I put this to the guys at work today.

Would you be a copper??

Do you really know what a copper has to put up with every single day??

Ok another way to look at it.

Said copper gets a call over his radio saying "white male seen carrying Samaria sword wearing blah blah blah" Ok no mention of age no mention of a disability. the said copper goes to look for said person and comes across someone resembling the description, he asks them to stop they do not he says again to stop they still do not, what does he do next??

wait till he has no right arm cause said person cut it off.

Wait for back up?

Or tazer him to render him useless to get said sword only to find his mistake?

we where not there we do not know what went on and presumably never will.

Just my 2 cents

Oh the lads at work would not be a copper for all the tea in china and agreed we were not there so do not know what really happened, apart from a blind old guy got tazered

How the hell can't you tell the difference between a sword and a white stick? For one the blind man would be tapping it on the ground in front of him, not waving it round like a luney! Just imagine walking down the street with a blind fold on and someone yelling stop! Are you going to?

Somewhere near NE Derbyshire/S Yorkshire/Nottinghamshire border

I share my name with a ageing British rocker when ever I have been stopped most have seen the funny side, except a jobsworth who insisted my passport was a forgery and I was taking the 'Mick'

sorry but they have made a ridiculous mistake and like everyone else in life they have to be accountable - you would not be saying the same thing if a bus driver for example made a very obvious and ridiculous mistake that resulted in the deaths of people.

if you make such a stupid and unforgiveable mistake then people are entitled to criticise you
