Hello sexy fabbers,

I was wondering if anyone has travelled or is thinking of travelling alone? I've booked a holiday abroad alone and wondered how you found it. Its a big step for me I've always had family and I'm nervous. Do you have any words of wisdom for me? Input appreciated

Are you going on an organised trip of some sort?

Friend of mine travels alone all the time, but he used to do organised tours at 1st with a company called explore if I remember correctly

I do it all the time. I much prefer it to travelling with others.

Just relax and go with the flow. You'll end up meeting more people solo anyway

It's ok as long as you are comfortable with going out and wandering on your own and for me being in a country where English was not a common language

Well done, it's a brave and liberating step.

I guess it depends what sort of holiday you're doing. Usually you'll find people to talk to, particularly if you're doing activities.

The only time I've felt alone is sometimes when dining on my own; I love to share gustatory moments - having something to read can overcome that.

In my younger days I was the only person in my group of friends who liked skiing, so I went to Austria and France a few times by myself. It was fine, and easy to find people to chat with when you have the shared interest. The naked sauna by myself with two Dutch ladies one night was a particular highlight……

I’ve been abroad alone and I found it very liberating.

I was able to do what I wanted, when I wanted.

I ate at restaurants and drank at bars…I chatted to a couple of people but I just enjoyed my own company.

There were a couple of times going to the apartment by myself I would have enjoyed company but overall it was a good experience.

I’ve been on a few holidays alone. Skiing - not much fun skiing alone and evenings were tough as it was all families or couples in the restaurants.

A few cycling holidays in France - I enjoyed this more as I was able to set my own pace & distance. Hoping when things are easier to cycle through Europe to Istanbul. Who wants to come with me?

I go alone and love it. I always book a central hotel so everything I need is not too far away. Having the freedom to do what you want when you want is bliss. My job is stressful and by holidaying alone I get the chance to completely unwind.

I’ve travelled quite a bit on my own and enjoyed it. I found that planning where I’d go each day helped as I didn’t like the thought of being lost!

I have been travelling alone for a few years. I can give some tips.

Travelling alone is great for multiple reasons. You could plan your day based on your whims and only do things that you like. It helps you build confidence.

The most difficult part you will face is the loneliness that hits you when you are back in your room after the day's activities. I have been living alone for 3 years. But still when I am travelling to a new country and I am alone in my room, it hits me pretty hard. But I have learned to get around it with some certain tricks

1) Do not get back to your room until it's time to sleep. I walk around the place, have a slow dinner and then get back to the room only after 9.

2) If you are going on group trips during the day, sometimes you can be lucky to meet other travellers who are friendly with solo travellers. I have been lucky enough to be invited to have dinner with some people. Though this does happen, I would recommend having reduced expectations on this matter. Usually, old couples love some company for dinner, young couples not so much

3) You could possibly stay in a dorm instead of single room which is cheap and easy to make friends. But I need calm and silent surroundings for me to get sleep. So I don't do this.

4) You can book package tours where they take same group of people everywhere. Again, easy to make friends.

But things could vary a lot based on the country you are visiting. Weather and safety play a big part on which of my above tips will work. Anyway happy journey. You will have lots of memories for sure

I spent a good chunk of my 20s traveling alone and I miss it! A liberating experience but it's important to be in the right place.

Also, female solo travelers I've spoken to have always talked about safety and feeling insecure at times but you can often find a good support group of expats or locals to help out. Hope this helps x

Take book during the day and sit in a cooffeshop or cafe and chill out. You will be amazed at the number of people doing the same as you.

I always look for at least one other single person in a restaurant at night, then your not the only single person there, which gives you a bit of courage.

Spanish tapas/pintxo bars are great places to eat at night. Choosing what you are going to eat is good fun and there is always someone to ask what to have.

I don’t want to make you nervous, but Charlotte attracted a crowd of locals every time I left her alone for some reason in Egypt. I think it might be one of the more difficult countries fit a single female traveler.

I backpacked around the world for a year by myself and can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did! No waiting around for someone to get ready, no arguing over where to go next! Just completely free spirited and an amazing experience!

In the resort you are very safe, but it would be a good idea to go as a group if you take I trip to the local areas (shops & bars).

The Egyptian people are the politest, friendliest folk I’ve ever met - and I’ve been around a bit. You will have absolutely no issues with local guys other than what you’d expect anywhere. Yes they may give you a bit of the old patter but they never EVER overstep the mark. A wonderful country with wonderful people.

Hello, I've been to Sharm, you'll absolutely love it. But you really need to stay within the complex you're staying at, as some parts can be a bit dangerous to loners. Xx

I travelled around Thailand Hong gong Singapore and also did the Nc500 12months ago.. honestly its good to the point you don't have to worry about pleasing anyone else but then there's times where it would of been nice to take certain things in with someone.. plus holiday and regular sex are the best

Having done a lot of of solo travelling with work and on my own I'd recommend getting your itinerary planned (particularly any transport). Print all your travel documents off (as you don't always have phone battery/signal when you need it) and then just go for it. You'll have a great time with the added bonus of just doing what you want when you want.

Great snorkelling/diving around Sharm so that is worth a look.

As a long time divorced guy its been a long time since I went on holiday with anyone else. But I am used to traveling alone on long distance business trips. As far as USA, Australia and New Zealand. I took an extra week in New Zealand and hired a camper van and toured about. I've never been to dodgy or particularly dangerous places. But I think a female would be more vulnerable especially things like dodgy taxis. On holidays appart from NZ I've always gone on a package holidays and made a point of attending the reps meetings to see what was going on and say hello to people. However most were couples or families only concerned with themselves. I'm so used to being on my own most of the time anyway that lack of a diner companion doesn't bother me. It also allows me to indulge in visiting adult clubs, saunas etc and I always research these at the resort before I go. I do however have a few lady friends (not swingers) who regularly go on holidays abroad alone. One uses an upmarket travel agent specialising in singles holidays and the other is an independent traveller who is extremely adventurous and has visited several muslem countries in her own with no problems at all.

I've been on several holidays alone and loved every time. The joy of being able to go to places you want to explore, eating when you want and being as active or chilled as you want it brill.

In a cafe you can check info on where you plan to go tomorrow or sit and look around and check out what others are eating. Taking organised trips early on might mean you can get to know others staying I the same hotel or area and could do other days with them.

You can mingle as much as you want, or just relax and do your own thing.

I'm the evening at the hotel I always go through my photos and write in a journal so I remember things. I do miss being able to discuss things with people, but you can bore people with holiday snaps and stories once you get home. Have fun

After years of going away with mates , getting d*unk every night then sleeping it off during the days , repeating it every night ,i decided to go away by myself , I was shitting it to be honest but loved every second , I could do what I wanted , go where I wanted and didn’t feel the need to go out every night get d*unk and wasted , now I can go and see the country I visit , chill out , sunbathe , I love my own

Company, but there are so many single people who travel alone , roll on March my next holiday away , have fun
