A lot of people use them in deciding if someone is compatible but how many actually follow up on them when reading inappropriate forum comments or threads?

They often set alarm bells ringing and red flags waving.

Forum comments haven't played any part in our decision making but in fairness we haven't met many forumites. The verification trail plays a big part for us and we are pretty meticulous, it has in our opinion been the most important part of the interactions when securing a successful meet.

Forums I don't tend to make a decision on but verifications I might, although saying that everyone's opinion of someone is different so I go more off interaction in messages and make my own decision.

Comments on the forums can show a different side to a person that you can’t see on a profile. So yes, I do use forums when deciding who to meet up with.
