Sorry to hear you feel that way…

The forums are great to interact with others and so are the cams/chat rooms

Definitely live in a world so many are focused on their phones, social media and the art of conversation is becoming lost…

I think the Internet and certain technologies have killed the social skills of a generation

I think it's partly accurate but not entirely. It's easy to look at your phone and see so many people online (fab, facebook, insta etc) and yet you have few options for people to talk to. It's also the reason online dating apps are such hard work. It's called 'overchoice'.

Growing up before the Internet and mobiles, I had maybe one friend who I'd see outside of school. I don't recall ever feeling lonely then, even though I had no one to talk to if that friend was unavailable.

I get the same loneliness feelings as everyone else. Having lots of "friends" on social media makes it worse in a way. You see a carefully crafted view of how they want their lives to look so it's easy to compare yours to theirs. Unplugging from social media for a week and going outside more can be a massive help from that perspective.

I don't feel lonely but I do feel lonlier. That's partly due to the pandemic and having given up work but also I think we do live a more isolated life now. When I was a kid we knew everyone on the street and were always in and out of each others houses, as a teenager we were always out and about with our particular group of friends, then work, children etc all came along. Now here we are with much less contact with real people.

Feeling lonely is horrible.

Social media can emphasise loneliness. There really is only one way to overcome isolation and feelings of loneliness and that's to put yourself out there. It can be daunting and you might have to try various things but nobody is going to knock on your door and ask to be your friend. I've seen people mention Meetup (I think it's called)a group where people meet socially, would something like that appeal?

I'm exactly the opposite. I remember all too well how lonely I was before mobile phones and the internet, and I would *not* want to go back.

Friends in my pocket are still friends, and very much better than nothing.
