I know we can say well that's a generalisation but I don't in her shoes, I'm not a black woman, but this is her experience. The writer futher went on to say dating is extra hard for black women because white men generally aren't interested for the same reason stated above. Basically she felt due to the racist veiws of society in general black women are not that well desired by any race for dating. It was sad to read and I felt for her. To what extent this is the case I don't know because I don't stand in those shoes." I am a black woman and I can see where she is coming from but I wouldn’t fully agree with what she’s saying in regards to seeing white women as a prize etc. It is true that black women have come “last” in the dating surveys like OkCupid, and I think that’s down to again people being influenced by European beauty standards and seeing darker skin and non European features as less attractive. Of course some are just not attracted to black women and that’s fine, but when you look different to the “majority” like in the U.K. and the US you are going to be picked less I guess. It’s an interesting subject and there’s a lot of things that would go into why this race likes that race or why one race dates outside of their race more than another etc. | |||

I agree, I’m such a big woman supporter especially as so many young girls grow up hating their natural beauty, not just black girls but girls of all races grow up with insecurities because of social media so anytime I can compliment a woman/girl I will! Yeah, as much as some men say they’re not intimidated by strong confident women I think a lot are not necessarily in a sinister way but more in a way that some men have this primal old fashioned instinct where they want a woman to “need” them or rely on them in some way if you will, and in this day and age it’s become less and less of a thing. There is an obsession with fair skin in all these countries you have mentioned. But colonisation plays only a minor part of it. Fair skin being considered superior is something that came out even before colonisation. The reason is simple. Most cultures had some kind of class/caste system. The upper caste people are the ones who usually do the work sitting inside their homes while the lower caste people go outside in the sun and do the physical work. Naturally with time, the ones in upper caste became fairer while the others became darker. As of now, in many parts of India, you can find someone's caste just by skin colour. That's where the whole colour superiority came from. Colonisation probably just reinforced it. | |||
