Would anyone recommend it?

I live in barnsley now and feel obliged to watch it as I'd be embracing what feels to be a pioneering pivot of what put this little place on the cinematic map.

I missed the film studies lesson in school which focused on this and believe ken loach had a great presence in British film making but from what I've heard it's about some kid who smashes up a bird and it's on YouTube (with subtitles for immigrants like me to understand the dialect).

Hopefully I've not offended any of you northern monkeys

I've seen Rita sue and Bob too. And I believe brassed off was set in grimethorpe? But I'm slowly getting there... Just hope there's more to KES than a kid smashing up a bird

It's a fabulous film. The kid is from an awful poor background, he's been thrown on societies scrap heap before he's even started. The only good thing in his life is caring for a kestrel chick that he finds, but the people and system around him try to wreck even that.

Trying hard not to give away plot details, ignore what you've been told. It's a brilliant movie, it's an exact slice of life from that time and place (my childhood was not so far away in time or space). It's got comedy embedded in tragedy, amazing acting from a young cast. It has a _truth_ to it. Unless you have a heart of stone, there will be tears.

On any day of the year I'd rate "Kes" to be one of the ten most important British films ever made.

My last two years in secondary school 1982 to 1984 I read Kes and I have seen the film since. I enjoyed reading the book at school watching the film.Apparently apart from I believe one person none of them had acted before the film

The footy scene where Brian Glover is Bobby Charlton is quality.

Watch Kes. The football match is a work of genius because of Brian Glover.

I always find that I feel I need to take a shower if I watch Rita,Sue & Bob too. The most horrible grubby film ever. Terrible dialogue & badly acted.

I went to school in St Helens and none of those schools were called St Helens.

I did it in English too, when I was 13. Pure class.

When a teacher takes a group of troubled school children on a school trip to Conwy in Wales, the children understand life outside of Liverpool.

This is a must watch, as the two scenes on the beach at the end, between teacher and pupil on the rocks/cliff edge is written so

brilliantly.

When you watch kes,it shows how times change.

Kids were happy out and about exploring and going on adventures all day,walked my dog today,had to go through a park on the way back, a few teenagers all sitting together on they phones,and not even looking up or uttering a word to each other.....no adventure in them these days....give es me walking stick haha.

I grew up wanting to work in the Cronton colliery, the Ravenhead or Pilks. Can't believe so much industry shut down or went automated.
