Because some people think that being a gentleman means having to pay for everything, having to be the one to travel and so on.

I'm always happier to split the bill so there is no expectation on either party but if a woman insists on paying I have no issue with that. I would insist on paying next time though.

I’ve never understood the notion that if the man or whoever pays, there’s an expectation of some sort for whoever is being treated. That’s madness.

Why’d you feel compelled to pay OP?

Personally, on a first date or social, if a man lets me reach for my wallet—my pussy shrivels up dry and dies.

I never expect the guy to pay for everything if we go for a meal or even a hotel meet. I don't see why it should be expected in this day and age. We are all adults and should be well able to pay our share.

But men I've met have been amazed when I've paid as it seems not to be the norm on here.

I have only done "drinks" for socials and do rounds. I once met one guy who would order double vodkas when I was buying but bought himself a fosters when it was his round.

For me it depends, if I've suggested dinner then I'd pay as I invited, if he invited then he'd pay. Nothing makes me feel more awkward than divvying up a bill at the table... I'm same with friends.

Socials for me are usually a Costa, but 99% of the time I'll pay. It removes their sense of entitlement, if I decide they're not for me. Amazes me how some think a 3 quid coffee buys them a shag!!

Once had a woman buy me drinks every time we went out. Literally pub or club before finishing our round she'd make an excuse and be at the bar paying for drinks, there was no getting around it.

Wow can we meet for a social as I've never had a restaurant bill paid as for some reason everyone expects me to pay!! Anyway its 2021 and I believe that women can vote!!

Personally I always would expect to pay as I'm old school so I too would have been shocked!!

Well I must be the exception here by being one of the last of the dinosaurs from the era when hardware was something that you got at the iron mongers, and the only software around was located between old men's legs before viagara was invented, when it was also hip for a guy to take a lady out who had gone to a lot of trouble to look her best for the occasion, and not expected her to have a pocket calculator in her handbag to work out her share of the tab.

You just split it down the middle there is no need for a calculator.

Or you take turns of paying. I really don't see why the man should be expected to pay all the time .It doesn't matter how long I take to get ready or the effort I put in before I meet the person. It's nothing to do with old style values either or anything like that. You are both meeting for the same reason so I don't understand why a women would expect the man to always foot the bill it actually reeks of entitlement if you never put your hand in your own pocket.

It would make me very uncomfortable if I was meeting someone and they always footed the bill and it would put me off seeing them again. If it's someone I meet regularly then yes I don't mind it sometimes as we both would do it.

Thanks for all your replies, both public and private. Another reason why it's more in my comfort zone to treat the woman whose company I am having the pleasure of is that they may not have the disposable income that I have, and may be even struggling a bit, so the thought of a lady having to spend out, when her resources could be better deployed on her family rather than dividing up a restaurant bill sits far easier with me.

I never do more than coffee or a drink for a first social/date and I always pay for the first round. I've had guys be shocked by that and also some that weren't overly happy about it. After that, we take it in turns. If I go out for a meal, we split the bill.

Like Bill Burr said, women treat equality like a buffet

Equal pay? Sure thing! Splitting the bill on the 1st date? Ew no that’s yucky

I always think the person who asks should be the person to pay. If I message a guy and ask to take him out for a drink, I'll pay. If he asks me, he can pay.

I've been on socials where we've had meals. Sometimes the other person will pay, sometimes I do, sometimes we split the bill.

If it's coffee or drinks then we tend to take it in turns to go to the bar or the counter and buy.

There is no expectation on my part that someone will pay for my meal or drinks. Sometimes it happens, but it's never something I would expect.

I usually always meet for a drink for this reason. It's within my disposable income budget to afford a drink every now and then. Usually the guy/girl will then buy the second drink. (If there is one Haha)

I’d have thought that most “dates” would either be old-fashioned where the man is expected to pay, or 50/50 where the bill is split anyway.

So I’d have have thought that it was at least a little unusual for the woman to end up paying - unless there’s a specific circumstance such as the man travelling a long way.
