Catfish Caught

I want to express my utter frustration with yet another dodgy profile. The last 10mins have reminded me why we deleted our account. Basically a couple with verifications & pics going back a few years all appearing genuine have invited us to join them straight away. However they are not wanting to speak on the phone 1st so that we can all be sure we're real etc. Their reason was being pushed for time,even though we said even a few minutes all needed. They are online constantly although say they have friends over. They won't take a few mins to reassure genuine but asking us to drive to an unknown address?

Yeah it does seem abit suspect, I personally don’t like talking on the phone don’t know why just always been a weird thing of mine lol but I would always suggest back about doing a quick video chat if there ok to do so, are there veris traceable ? X

i dont see the problem or why you decide this couple are cafishing you ?? there are 100s and 1.000s of couples and womens profiles on here that will not give out phone numbers emails or anything else that dont make them fake that makes them do things there way...... we never give our phone numder or email out never have never will yet we get meet easy cant remember the last time we were let down

Agreed. I too will not give personal information out until I am sure. I think for every genuine Fabber on here there are at least 5 that aren’t. A social meet in a public place is my favourite option, then decide from there.

Sorry but you have no proof this is a catfish situation.

If the account is verified multiple times and relatively recently I dont see the issue. If the last veri was say 2015 then I can understand your point but it's still not proof.

Weve never felt the urge to phone anyone before a meet on fab in 10 years, weve simply used common sense based on their past veris. If they dont have them, we wont meet, if they dont have any recentish "in person meets" we certainly wont just go to somones house for a first meet. Public meet only in that scenario.

On the few occasions we have just gone to a house or party or whatever, its never been an issue as again, weve just gone by their previous veris and dated of said veris.

It is possible to withold your number when calling from a mobile or you can get a "Fab phone" SIMM card. You can also speak or video on other untraceable forms of communication.

With so many timewasters on here it is not unreasonable to seek some form of confirmation. The situation described by the OP I recognise as a time wasters pattern so their concern is justified in my opinion.

I sometimes feel the couple is now a single male who continues to use the couple profile...

There are a lot of ways to game the system ... You've gotta decide where your boundaries are and bin off anyone who doesn't want to work within them. No dramas. Is what it is.

That happens often and leaving couples get taken over by others and their veris remain.

Bit rich accusing a couple who are more well verified than you guys of being fake, no? You guys have only been on here 3 weeks and are only photo-verified. Anyone can fake a photo verification. We probably wouldn't give you our number either if we wanted to meet, so can't say we blame this other couple.

Yes, there is no actual evidence that these people are wanting to waste your time.

However, if they're wanting a 'meet now' setting up then surely in 2021 people exchange numbers? Just in case one party is held up with car trouble or whatever.

Yes, I do take the argument that people are reluctant to give telephone numbers out to strangers. Especially if they have family or use it for work. But. To those that have that genuine situation (I do myself) there is a very simple solution: You can just get yourself a simple very basic 'Fab Fone' from just about any retailer (certainly all the 4 main supermarkets do them) for about £20 or thereabouts and have a Pay As You Go account that you can buy and top up with cash. Makes it really easy for couples just to chat even for a minute so everyone knows they genuine and no messing about.

It can be that easy. Try it.

I know. The point I am making is you do not appear to agree with the OP so you question the veracity of their statements. Personally I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt before calling someone a liar; but this social media so who cares?

OP here. We really appreciate all your comments. Actually very enlightening to hear different angles on a point. By the way, we are honestly who we say we are & really did have a previous profile for many years (returningcouple69) that bit is not particularly important as it certainly helps us see how people may be cautious of us not being real from first glance.

no there is simply no need we've been doing this 28 years never even had a pc when we first started ... if you do things right and pick who you meet correctly then i dont need to have anyone phone me/us yes we've been messed around in the early days but i cant tell you the last time we had no one turn up and bearing in mind the last 9 or 10 years has been meeting guys only ...

the problem lays with how people select who they want to meet ..the dreamers the wankers and the plain no interest in meets are easy to spot in fact ill go as far as to say they stick out like a sore thumb and then there those who get told no thanks and then decide to try and out people as timewaster ....so no sorry no phones no apps no emails has always worked well for us and we will keep going that way and having plenty of fun on the way.....

nothing feels fake about your profile op we've had a rule that we dont keep accounts for no longer than 5 years so we have open and shut many accounts over the years why ?? well lets just say its a purge of sorts and nothing againt it in the rules either

When I had a couple profile with my FWB he would put up meets like you describe. For men/couples to come over asap.

For an instant meee.We did not chat to people on the phone, we just gave them the address and they came over. If it's just a one night stand type meet.

What you describe doesn't make the couple a catfish, they are probably thinking the same about you.

Fab is a numbers game, where you whittle down the thousands of people down to the few where each side's preferences match. If they don't, you consign them to the unmatched bin. This includes preferences for how you communicate and meet.

Most people will just not be matched on both sides. Getting comfortable with letting others go and being let go of, is important for sanity and stress management.

Chalk things up to experience and focus on the positive opportunities

No matter how many “precautions” you/we take there will sadly always be some fakes out there. Sometimes they are easy to spot and sometimes much harder.

One of the classics are couples profiles that were genuine but are no longer a couple. The make is running the profile solo now. Amazingly they are always able to meet alone but she isn’t available (yes sometimes that is genuine).

The tell tale used to be old verifications BUT Covid has made that harder to spot.

We have had no veris for ages because of Covid. Annoyingly (we think) when people leave the site, their veri for you also disappears. Loads of ours are no longer there (though the summary gives a number).

While we get some people don’t want to give put a phone number, we would never meet anyone we hadn’t spoken to first. Not simply because we want to know if they are real but also to see whether it is possible to chat with them and whether we click. That’s our preference.

The title is a bit misleading, no catfish has been caught. We have never had a phone call to verify ourselves before a meet and don't plan to, that doesn't make us a catfish. A lot of people keep there "normal" lives separate from the swinging side and might not be comfortable giving there number to a complete stranger.

Dont see the problem. There are many profiles who will not do phone calls.

If they don't we just tell them we are not prepared to meet them and move on. It doesn't mean they are not genuine but if they really really wanted to meet you then they would do the call or offer a suitable alternative like a video chat.
