Scotland drug problems

Is it just me but since they put alcohol out of the price range of a lot of people have they turned to drugs as an alternative.

It's been going on for years the Drugs issue in Scotland....I don't think any amount of money thrown at the problem will stop it...certainly not opening places that addicts can go to use drugs...Chemists provide needle exchange and they also provide them with foil cups to heat their drugs...then vitamins for them to take, Methadone is also given....they then buy street drugs...just how much can the NHS afford to keep spending on this when there are seriously sick people that cannot get funding for well needed medication and treatments that will cure them. More residential rehab centers to give the medication needed to safely get them off drugs is needed more than anything...although that person has got to want to change and stop their addiction...For some there always is an excuse not to stop...with medical assistance it takes the chemical need from the body leaving the addict no longer 'needing' the drugs!!

I think the whole of the UK has a drugs problem... not just Scotland.

Recreational drugs are the new alcohol for the younger generations.

This has been driven since the 60s through the white lines of the 80s to the Smarties of the 90s and onwards.

As time progresses there is less stigma towards drugs and therefore more usage.

Doesn't make it right or clever.

But that's the way it is...

How do you make it safe. You can't.

But you can control it through legalisation of certain drug groups.

Drug laws are not devolved.

It was the Home Office that blocked the safe space in Glasgow and Westminster that have insisted that drugs are a criminal matter not a health matter.

I suspect escapism is rife in all areas of society, especially recently.

This site is one of them.

Suppression is not the way forward.

This comes from a leafy lane area that had some of the first needle banks.

Memetics, to me, has the answer.

It's time to regulate, educate and provide a safe way for people to do these things. The drugs themselves don't turn people into the messes we see in the streets, it's all the shite that's added to pad them out by dealers that fuck people up.

Imagine taking all that money away from organised crime in one go. The extra revenue that will come in from tax and the savings on fighting it would be massive.

You've just got to look at places like Portugal and Spain and the way they deal with drugs and addicts.

People have been trying to get wasted on whatever they can since we've been able to talk to each other. It'll never change weather it's alcohol, plant or chemical based we all crave those endorphins. It's why we're all members here.

Wouldn't make any difference Scotland has always had a issue related to alcohol and drugs. and the government rather than do something good about it and help those who have an addiction there isn't enough support or even the correct amount parts of Scotland has poverty created by the government which leads to alcohol or drugs.

The pandemic might well have worsened the situation. A lot have people have been stressed and isolated. I can see that driving them down a certain path.

But Justice is Devolved too...

On a policy level, Holyrood define substance misuse as a public health issue and not a criminal one.

Whist the Scottish Government have cut the number of Residential Rehab places, and deterred the NHS from offering that option. Other countries are making use of Scotland's excellent Re-Hab facilities.
