Do you prefer colour or black & white photos?

As a professional commercial photographer that's an interesting question and my response is it rather depends on what the Clisn't wants and what the subject matter is. The wrong choice can sometimes kill an image, difficult choice sometimes but both very different

"Do you prefer colour or black & white photos?"

It’s surprisingly how a much certain photos change their perspective once turned to b&w, erotic photos are better b&w if done correctly, bodyscapes etc and some wall art.

That said we all need a bit of colour too..

It depends on the picture for me, some look so much better in B&W.

If something or someone catches my eye that's all it takes.

It depends on the picture and the context. If I supplied nothing but black and white ones at work, no matter how good they were, our designer wouldn't be a happy chappy.

For personal stuff, it can vary depending on the subject, lighting, surroundings and a whole host of other things. Sometimes an image that looks pretty bland in colour changes completely when changed to black and white. It shifts emphasis more to the lines, shapes and shades, and can be great for moody images.

It's also sometimes a good way of 'rescuing' what at first seems like a bad photo

Depends on the photo but I do love black and white pics.

Its really depends on what the photo lends itself to.

On the whole i prefer black and white but sometimes colour is necessary

I shoot RAW and colour, but usually know when setting up an image (lighting etc) how I’m going to present it, and what look I want it go have. However on occasions, it’s good to mix things up!

Colour if digital but B/W has to be shot on film.

Sure you can do conversions and get film-grain mimicking filters, but it's the satisfaction and authenticity factor for me, having taken care to expose and compose a shot right, develop and scan (sometimes even print) the pic.

Also, you can't emulate David Bailey properly unless you're using a Rollei, Hasselblad or Nikon
