Am I right in thinking that there is no point in sharing a face picture with someone I am not going to meet because, for example they are well over my hour drive limit as I kind of um and ah when I get asked

Do what you feel is comfortable, if you weren't sure at first, then don't.

We have shared our face pics with people over that distance, we might not meet them, but have become friends with them.

We have sent face pics to people further away because we liked them and became friends. We don't see distance as an issue cause we enjoy the friendships we make and if down the road we end up their way or they find themselves near us great.

Really is a personal decision who you share face pic with. Best go with your gut feeling.
