Along with my wife we visit usually every 6 months, and have always tested clear.

As we went along for "peace of mind" rather than necessity we chose to tell the Sexual Health Nurse that we were swingers so felt we were higher risk than a "normal" married couple. Her reply being that she wished more swingers would visit GUM clinics and be tested.

Apparently, we were the only couple she had seen in 2 years that admitted to be swingers!

So the question is....do YOU get tested, and if not then why not?

I have been tested once for sti s in 2007,and had a full clean bill of health,but must commend you guys for going regular,as i believe people should,swingers or not! Including myself.

Our doctor knows we swing and whenever we see him in between our three month checks we get him to do swabs etc

I go every week, when one is as prolific as I, then one can't afford to take chances. Plus I think the female consultant, two of the nurses and one of the office staff want me to give them one (And I don't mean a disease!)

I actually got checked during the interim as I was being checked for other things, so everytime they did I asked for sti check again

I go for regular testings, i use the mobile clinics that go round the clubs, that way you dont have to explain why your there as they can figure it out themselves lol

Its really a good sign for self preservation that a lot of people get checked out by GUM. Very admirable. It still means that you are only as good as your next test. We are included in this by the way. If anyone using fab as a means of stating that they are totally clear of any sti's I would not believe a word of it and the people who make statements that they are sti free can never be sure either. (things can happen a day after your test)

Every three months without fail...they know I swing...always play safe and still feel the need to be sure...its safe and quick and never been judged...infact one of the nurses asks me how my fun has been...think she enjoys the funny stories lol

First my answer is YES i do get tested on regular basis and Secondly add that whilst us that do get tested, we also recognise that STI's dont have a diary so they cant tell its 6 months - if you follow my drift - what i'm saying its yet again another advert for why we all practice SAFE SEX

Not why I want to be tested, but last time was asked if I am in the sex profession! Think it was the combination of number of partners, and having been with bi guys and possibly sex workers.

I replied no, its just a hobby, I'm on the swinging scene...the staff are really nice and professional, and actually the gum clinic is much nicer than many of the other medical departments I have visited over the years. I always forget to ask for condoms tho! Grrrr!

From my own understanding i don't think many people are fully educated enough on sti's, a little reading can suprise alot of people on the practices of safe sex, i commend the people who seek out regular check ups, i suppose it goes to say look after your body and your body will look after you.

We don't need to - we always wear Hazmat suits when we play and douse any potential meets in bleach then give them a brisk scrub down with a yard brush before pleasuring them with a barge pole.

A question for all the prolific swingers who are regular GUM attendees ... do you keep a log of all your meets / contact details so you can inform them if (god forbid) you get a positive result? Just curious ...

I keep a list of who I met, the date and what happened. They do ask for this into at my local clinic. Full sex or oral, protected or not. I do not give them contact details, and only a first name.

For most I meet they still have a fab account, msn, or mobile number should they need to be contacted. The danger I see there is blame - who gave it to who...just because one got tested and discovered it first....as has been said many times before only you can be responsible for your own sexual health, and getting tested is essential in this hobby.

I do have a note of all meets I do via fab. But obviously when I do a club or cinema I haven't a clue.

To be fair over 90% of my meets are oral only but I do take CIM on a regular basis and often

It's in double figures each play time. However they just laugh and in fact one of the doctors at my clinic asked if I'd been slacking the last visit.

I don't see why anyone gets embarrassed about going.

I just wondered how people having random 'quickie' meets in a club or those who go dogging manage it. I guess it boils down to what you said - it's up to people just look after themselves as they see fit.

I'll keep hold of meets numbers until at least after my next test so that if I do have a bad result I can let them know. If they want to play any kind of blame game then that's there choice...noone could know who infected who and it's a pointless, and pretty childish, game to play. I would rather be slated by someone who decided I had infected them and have a clear conscience than say nothing and leave an someone with an STI , especially as the swinging world can sometimes be quite a small one and I wouldn't want it to work it's way back to me!

Dunno, think it's just 'The way I tell 'em' but it seems to be quite effective, I've had no need for an STI check since I started populating the forums with my superior input

we get tested but here`s the thing if you got tested and was found to have an std/sti how would you tell others you had been with or would you not say any thing we would tell any one we had seen since the last test but say a guy/woman found out befor we did would they/you tell so this topic shud be do you get tested and would you tell be intrested on the feed back on this

oh dear! Perhaps you need to do some research. Condoms are not 100% effective and have to be used consistently and correctly, but sometimes do still fail.

Yes, You can reduce the risk of infection by practising safe sex and always using a condom, but not all STIs are just passed on by penetrative vaginal or anal intercourse. Some can be picked up through oral sex too, while genital herpes, HPV and even sometimes infection such as gonorrhoea can be transferred by intimate contact. This means the skin on the crotch around the genitals not covered by the condom.

I hope that this helps and that you reconsider your position of 'safety' and start to get tested regularly like other responsible adults. Its free, and doesn't take much time.

Not sure its compulsory or even necessary to tell them youre a swinger, Testing is testing We both get tested regually even if we have time off from swinging. HIV can take from around 90 days to show up and lets be honest - thats the one we're all really worried about.

You still need to be tested safe sex or not. Theres no such thing as totally safe sex except for no sex at all which isnt much fun! - including touching kissing etc. Testing can be completely annonymous and isnt embarrassing or uncomfortable at all. Much easier than letting a venereal disease take hold and needing a lot more treatment.

On my last STI check up they also did a smear...... tested clear for STI's BUT then failed my smear a year on no playing but lots of lovely drug's to kill off my cervical cancer and no menophause to go through into the bargin, and I'm still here annoying the hell out of everybody.

We always get a full work up every couple of months or so. always clear, but that wouldn't stop us going, we told our doctor that we swing, thats why we were getting tested, they ad no problems, even offered up a hep b vaccine as we were at higher risk than normal people which was nice. did make me wonder why they dont offer it to people normally though.

Definitely going to invest in the HPV jab for both me and my partner, even though we only play safe its still contractable with skin contact.
