Two Tone was part of my musical awakening and even though it wasn't strictly ska, more influenced by it, through there I discovered the original ska of Desmond Dekker, Prince Buster, Toots & The Maytals, The Skatalites, The Pioneers and more...

One thing I love about The Lounge is that it covers topics on a vast range of subjects. Finding like-minded people with music, culture, hobbies etc is a real joy.

I love reggae and dub. Ska is great too, but I’m less well-up on that. Some of my favourite tracks:

Culture - Two Sevens Clash

Niney the Observer - Blood and Fire

Black Uhuru - Going to Zion

The Heptones - Freedom Line

Lee Perry - Dreadlocks in Moonlight

Jacob Miller - Healing of the Nation

Count Ossie and the Mystical Revelations of Rastafari - Way Back Home

Jennifer Lara - I’m in Love

Toots and Maytals - Redemption Songs

Sabres of Paradise - Wilmot

There and to the left a bit

I think the joy of ska/reggae is that it can fit around most genres and works in both directions - for example I've heard ska covers of everything from Oasis, Kraftwerk and Duran Duran to Tzchaikovsky and also heard elements of ska/reggae in songs by Green Day, The Clash and more

Yep and the House Of Fun Weekend in November if it goes ahead - although I wouldn't necessarily call Madness a ska band - sure they draw influences from it, but their music is not purely ska and has elements of so much more

Love me a bit of [spunge].

In fact, ska is just so happy and bouncy that no matter what they sing about, it puts a smile on your face!

Even caught myself foot tapping to Fortnights (the game) new song, which has a few musicians from ska backgrounds (Reel big fish).

I’m really hoping it goes ahead, it’s the last one and weve been to all the others.

It won't be the last tour but if you're referring the the HOFW then it's the last one they're "contracted" for but given their success I wouldn't be surprised if there are more

They are awesome weekends - haven't made all of them but quite a few and always have a blast.

Reel Big Fish aren't quite ska punk but having only known Sell Out until a year or so ago, I bought their monster best of album (70 odd tracks for only £8) and it blew me away - such talent with some brilliant covers

A few more to check out if you don't know them already:

The Simmertones - awesome bright, breezy and brassy ska from the SW

Death Of Guitar Pop - ska with an edge from Essex

The Bluebeaters - Italian ska band who do some fantastic covers - their cover of Oasis' Roll With It is brilliant

Rude Boy George - NY band who mainly do ska covers

The Amphetameanies - Scottish ska

Esperanza - more Scottish ska

hubs has loads of bluebeat and ska mostly the very early stuff but he collects the stuff that was before that too ... Jamaican r n b - Jamaican blues - Jamaican vocal groups / doowop alot of these guys went to the usa in the 50s to try and make it some did some did not but out of that scene bluebeat and ska was born as well as calypso of course being a massive influence ...

also big fans of the two tone stuff too got nearly 60 of the trojan boxsets so even tho his main go to is rockabilly- psychobilly we love our ska reggae too

A group is only "past it" if the individual listener thinks so though - maybe because I only discovered their wider catalogue more recently, but I certainly don't think they are.

Less Than Jake I know, will have to check the others out although on a brief listen to a couple of Mad Caddies tracks they didn't immediately grab me I have to confess.

Mad Caddies are amazing. They keep the ska roots too. RBF are so past it, when a band is left with only the front man and many time removed other members it’s time to pack it in

To be honest having seen both versions of the band - Roger's one and Dave's one, and no disrespect to Roger who put on a good show, Dave's is far better, and will be back over here next year. Roger was a lovely bloke and provided a lot of energy, but found his version to be a bit "by the numbers", whereas Dave as the songwriter just brings that little bit more to the songs and has the better backing band who have helped evolve the songs just that bit more.
