"I like to think of my self as very polite and courteous. But can be too nice and polite put people off ?" I don’t think being polite and courteous would put people off, but you need to mix that with confidence aswell, getting that balance is the trick

"No, there is no such thing as being *genuinely* too nice. There is such a thing as being sychophantic or faux niceness which people often confuse with being genuinely just a nice person." I've been dumped by a girlfriend for being too nice in her words and for years after I hated that term. I have now found that balance between nice and mannerly and self confidence. I have seen plenty on here though who act nice all the time and never have an opinion of their own. They echo multiple differing opinions and have to chat to as many people as possible on every thread. Others need public acknowledgement of their niceness. It all seems like a lot of hard work for them so it's obvious that it's all a persona

I often wonder if it was just a "get out the relationship" reason in a nice way...similar to " the problem is me not you"!

"Yes there is such a thing as been too nice unfortunately... Being too sweet to be wholesome...I've witnessed this on here & in real life Ulterior motives & quite sneaky...bordering on evil" I had a woman friend who was very much like this, had being the operative word. You simply couldn't trust that what she said to you was true.

In my case we'd only been going out a couple of months and had never spent a single minute alone because her friends were always there. Completely out of the blue she used those words at 5 mins to midnight on New year's Eve and then proceeded to snog one of the local bad boys on the dancefloor to see the New year in.

I assume it's a polite way of telling me they don't fancy me in the slightest, or I'm too emotional to deal with it when they inevitably lose interest and dump me

"I like to think of my self as very polite and courteous. But can be too nice and polite put people off ?" It doesn't put me off but by being too nice myself I've ended up being hurt, here and IRL.
