Best hotels?

Hello! We have been chatting to some great people on here but haven't managed to meet with most of them yet. Our biggest stumbling block is accommodation - we cannot for family reasons, and many of our friends have the same difficulty.

We've got this weekend free and thought about booking a hotel for Saturday night and inviting friends to join us. Have people here had much success with this sort of approach, and also, what are the best sort of hotels to book?

Is it best to go for something quite impersonal and cheap and cheerful like a Travelodge or Premier Inn? Is it difficult getting people in? You have to have swipe cards to get in the lift, etc, in some of these places. And are they OK with what they must obviously know goes on in their hotels? I would have thought they would have been - they must be as desperate for business as we all are for fun after this past year!

Any advice gratefully received!

Cant talk about the current situation (hotels are taking names from what we understand) but pre covid, we used the travel lodge a few times.

They use a key card system so we would get two cards, pop down to the bar, meet our freinds and then either have them follow us directly or just give them the spare card and tell them what room to come to.

Never had a problem but again, this was pre covid and I have no idea what the front desk rules are currently.

+1 for travellodge/ premier inn. Had quite a few meets in one. If you don’t want to meet in lobby, then you can leave your card somewhere, and tel the person how to find it.

I mostly get “it’s under the car ref ab123cd”, easiest thing to do, plus it’s cheap but clean and can’t go wrong with that
