I don’t understand why many profiles scorn those you wink at them. Sure they must be flattered with a simple compliment.

What do others think?

I think a wink is a nice way of saying to someone "wow your hot". Doesn't necessarily mean anything else just a token of appreciation.

Everybody loves a good wink

If I see an angry profile that complains about winkers, and usually lots of other things they dont like about Fab, I make a point of winking so they can get the satisfaction of blocking me as implied in their angry threat. I hope they get enormous gratification from carrying out their sentence, plus it saves me the hassle of reaching for the block button myself.

It doesn’t matter if people ignore a wink but what’s the point of blocking someone who winks at you. It is all too negative and angry when someone is being positive and complimentary. Let’s show a bit of positive respect where respect is due.

I had to block a man recently because every single week like clockwork, for months and months, he sent me a wink and a friend request. He never messaged me or interacted in any other way, just a weekly wink and FR. What’s complimentary or positive about that? Why should I show respect (presumably you mean by not blocking him) for that? It’s not a compliment to act like you’re entitled to someone’s private photos when you can’t even be bothered to say hello to that person, and to do it week after week for months on end is more like harassment in my eyes.

There is a clear distinction between indifference to winks and objection to them. I can understand if someone gets a lot of winks they are a bothersome distraction.

Sometimes you can receive a wink that goes back and forth but nothing ever comes of it. Wink tennis. Surely if you wink someone and they wink back the owness is on you to message and say thanks for the wink?

We look at them and see if any are of interest to us.

We tend to wink people if we haven’t got time to drop a message and hotlist them. We’ll send a message when we have time.

Winks are a good opener to show interest....if we wink we are saying we like what we see, if we get a wink back, we’ll send a message.

It’s another tool to use...

It's a simple matter of supply, demand and frigging airs.

If you didn't get one for 16 weeks straight, you'd appreciate the next one (regardless of where it came from).

Sometimes you see a profile and honestly, you can't help but send a wink. 50 winks or more à day, would be daunting, granted; but I don't think à wink or winks should be so bad as to cause offence or cause one to hiss in a fit!

As others have said, it is a quick and easy way of showing appreciation or saying hi. Whether the recepient is impressed or not is irrelevant. If one is impressed, you just engage and proceed. If not impressed, carry on, ignore and do your thing.

Women control access to sex.

Men control access to relationships and mariage. That is why the imbalance exists in the world of sex/ swinging.

When you step into the world of matchmakers, the boot is on the other foot. The "winks" are from the girls.

I wink erm partly because there is so many time waters on here, if I’m nessaging someone I’ll aim that message at them instead of a cookie cutter copy and paste type reply, but I’ll wink first and as said in my profile, if they wink back I’m happy to sit and message them straight back

But you can waste so much time otherwise

Quick wink to show interest in the profile wink back if you like mine Kinda deal maybe I’m just lazy

Quite. Not sure where the 'anger' comes into it. We don't send winks and our profile states that we don't wish to receive them yet we still do every day. Why would we bother to respond to people who either haven't read our profile first or just ignore what it states?

I sometime send them but rarely receive them!! I don’t mind receiving them as long as they fit my preferences x

Like others say it’s a small gesture to see if people wink back and it’s breaking the ice a little and saying I like your pics profile etc,

I send winks if I’m in the profile owners age group preferences etc and only message when I’m in those groups too!! As 99% of the time you spend time being friendly with a small introductory message and send a cpl of pics but then they rarely get read or u don’t get a reply the message just gets deleted x

I much prefer winks to unsolicited messages (& says so on my profile)! I check out the winker's profile, same as before opening a message, and if I like what I see I wink back ... indicating an interest in communicating with them!

If I like a profile I happily send a wink and if they wink back, I'll then message them! It's easy and works very well ...

Find it odd that so many moan about the amount or the content of their messages but won't use a much simpler and quicker option!

I like getting a wink.

It gets my attention and gets me looking at their profile. If I like what I see, I wink back and send a message.

It seems more efficient for both parties than them writing a well thought out message, that I then read, then look at their profile and 'then' decide I'm not interested.

Why waste everyone's time when a simple wink registers interest.

A wink is like a smile across the dancefloor, to get into another person’s pants you eventually have to go and speak to them.

So a message is necessary. It is flattering to get a wink (or pic fabbed) but we never respond. We wait for a nice message.

We're happy to get a wink from people who have read our profile and are looking for similar things.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I really don’t mind winks at all, like op says they’re just a little nod to say “ hey, I saw your profile, I like the look of it come and see mine to see if we have a mutual attraction”

What bugs me is when you get winked from blank or hidden profiles, like what on earth is the point of that ?

I think winks are great, I don't always know what to say, and a message saying 'hey your hot and I like what you put in your bio' or something to that effect never gets you anywhere.

So I send a wink just to show interest, and if I get either a wink or a message back I know then there is some form or interest. Otherwise I just leave it.

I do send messages sometimes, but half the time (cause I'm one of about 300billion men on here) they either get ignored completely and the other half read and I'm left hanging.. Lol.

So it's as I said before, I use it as an I formal greeting and seeing if there is any interest.

Like above I use them to express my initial interest as again fully aware females get bombarded with lots of messages.

It's true I am a winker !

We take the wink as a compliment, don’t return them, tbh didn’t know what the protocol was and haven’t winked back incase it was taken as we’re interested but may have a look at their pics and maybe fab 1 or 2 if they are a couple.

Winks are harmless. I think some people get too worked up over receiving them. If it's from someone you would genuinely love to meet then what happens?

I like winks and yes I treat them as compliment

Sometimes I will follow them up

It doesn't do anyone any harm a good way to show and interest so why not.

Dunno what the issue is with some people.

Nothing wrong with a wink, in fact I prefer them to a ‘fancy a fuk’ or ‘you meeting’ etc..messages I usually get.

If I’m interested in meeting that person, then I’ll either wink back or send a message.

A wink is a lazy or prudish way to try and get someone to message.

Winks are a swipe right on tinder. If someone winks at us who we fancy they get a message.

If we don’t we take he compliment snd move past them.

"Beats going on and on about what you're looking for in a meet and sending some poor person/people your swinging life story for them to just open it, at least a wink shows interest and then you can chat away to people who might actually want to know more! Well thats the way we look at them anyway "

If you are God's gift to mankind and therefore think a wink is lazy and rude and crude, feel free to block and move on.

If you are a mere mortal, and your doodoo stinks like all of us, a wink is mere "hi, I see you. Do you see me like that too?" It's up up to you to either wink back or ignore just the same way you would ignore attention from someone you don't fancy.

I don't see what the brouhaha is all about!

The way I see it there's no point scorning a feature that has been made for a reason.

Doesn't mean everyone has to like them but best to state that on your profile then its down to respect a person's wishes.

If they want you to not wink and message why ignore that and still wink then complain they haven't responded.

I don't mind them I just think its pointless winking at me if we're far apart but it's stated on my profile also. Xx

I only discovered who has winked you page about a week ago. Don't know if responding would amount to anything. Seems better to just message if you are interested.

We don't mind winks at all.

They're a feature of this site and used correctly, can really pay off.

Example, One profile owner checks another, maybe they're just out of their age range, or not too sure if they for their criteria.

They wink.

Profile Two takes a look, likes what they see and winks back.

Profile One then types out a well thought out message, in response to the profile that caught their eye.

Done, no drama.

One of our best and most repeated meets began at them sending a wink.

I see it as a subtle way to catch their eye, without annoying them with a message.

Let's face it, there's a hell of a lot of hostility here considering the site is based around adult 'fun'.

If some people want to receive winks there's no problems sending them but why would anyone send a wink to a proile which clearly states they don't want them and why should the recipient bother to reply?

For us personally its a catch 22. We aren't the most confident on here so wink to see of there's any interest. If we get a wink back then we will send a message. Problem we have is when there is no reciprocation, are they not interested, don't use it or just plain ignore winks? Do we then send a message and seem pushy or let sleeping dogs lie? We'd like to see the option where you can turn them off if you don't use/want them the same as you can turn off having your pics fabbed.
